James Bond: Amazon Was Willing to Give Christopher Nolan Final Cut

Amazon MGM Studios was willing to give Christopher Nolan the final cut of a James Bond movie.

This year, Amazon’s MGM Studios took over the entire creative direction of the James Bond series from Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. It was revealed this week that Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune, will be in charge of a future Bond film, which is expected to hit theaters around 2028.

Why isn’t Christopher Nolan directing the new James Bond movie?

Frequently, people bring up Nolan’s name during conversations about Bond, as they are curious about how he might portray the character of 07 if given the opportunity.

As per Variety’s latest update, Amazon was reportedly eager to collaborate with Nolan on the Bond series, potentially defying a long-standing convention that prevents a Bond director from having the final cut. To date, the Broccoli family has maintained exclusive control over the creative direction of the franchise, retaining the ultimate authority in decision-making.

It’s uncertain if Nolan will ever take on a 007 project in the future, but for now, he’s not involved with this particular film due to his commitment to The Odyssey, which is keeping him busy for at least a year.

Previously, it was speculated that Nolan’s brother, Jonathan, might take up the director’s chair for the next Bond film before the Villeneuve project. However, as Amazon is currently seeking a screenwriter and Jonathan has collaborated with them in the past on Fallout, Variety claims he is “unavailable” for the task at hand.

The movie titled “The Odyssey,” now being made, is a modern take on Homer’s famous epic poem of the same name. This production comes from Universal Pictures and features an impressive lineup of actors such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Cosmo Jarvis, and others.

As of now, no actor has been officially selected for the upcoming Bond film. However, according to Variety’s report, Holland, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson are currently Amazon’s top choices. Before moving on to Bond, Villeneuve plans to complete the third installment in his Dune series first, which is set to begin production later this year.
