James Bond 26: Ben Whishaw Thinks Entire Cast Will Be Replaced in Reboot

As a long-time James Bond enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the franchise from the days of Sean Connery to Daniel Craig’s tenure, I must admit that Ben Whishaw’s recent comments about the potential new cast for Bond 26 have left me both intrigued and somewhat melancholic.

Actor Ben Whishaw played Q (also known as Quartermaster) in three films with Daniel Craig as James Bond: Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021). Fans have been curious about the future appearances of recurring cast members following Craig’s announcement of his retirement from the role of James Bond. In a recent interview, Whishaw hinted that he and other cast members might not return for James Bond 26.

Ben Whishaw says James Bond 26 will have an all ‘new cast’

In a recent conversation with BBC, actor Ben Whishaw speculated about the future roles of himself and fellow cast members within the James Bond series. He suggested that the next Bond film could potentially feature an entirely new acting ensemble.

Speaking to BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, Whishaw mused, “I suspect I won’t be part of the next one. I believe they might begin anew with a fresh cast altogether – that’s just my guess, though I can’t say for certain.” (paraphrased from Deadline)

In previous installments of the series, characters like Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese played the role of Q. Whishaw mentioned that should the creators propose another appearance, he’d consider it, but felt it might be beneficial for the franchise to introduce a new Q character to breathe some freshness into it.

Whishaw expressed that he believes it could benefit from a fresh start and some novel faces. He added that given the opportunity, he would certainly be on board with that change.

Although the studio hasn’t officially confirmed James Bond 26 (often referred to as Bond 26), it’s highly likely that this will occur eventually. Given James Bond’s iconic status as one of the longest-running, influential, and prosperous film series in history, it seems only natural for the franchise to continue. There has been much buzz surrounding who the next Bond will be following Daniel Craig, with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Paul Mescal frequently brought up in fan conversations.
