Jake Gyllenhaal Will Star in New M. Night Syhamalan Movie Based on Nicholas Sparks Idea

It’s been announced that Jake Gyllenhaal will be appearing in an upcoming film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and more information about this project has been unveiled as well.

What do we know about M. Night Shyamalan’s next movie?

According to an initial report by Jeff Sneider’s newsletter, The InSneider, Jake Gyllenhaal has been chosen as the lead actor in the next film produced by the renowned filmmaker. Interestingly, a recent update from Deadline offers some early insights into the upcoming project.

Essentially, the project will be a unique blend of supernatural elements, romance, and suspense – a genre mix – with an original story jointly developed by M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks, a renowned author whose works such as The Notebook, Dear John, The Last Song, among others, have not only captured hearts but also been adapted into movies.

As Deadline’s report suggests, M. Night Shyamalan and Leigh Sparks are collaborating to develop a shared story concept. Shyamalan is responsible for penning the screenplay, while Sparks focuses on writing a novel based on the same initial idea. The details of the movie’s plot or any casting decisions have yet to be revealed, leaving us in suspense for now.

In the near future, Jake Gyllenhaal’s newest film release is “Road House,” a modern take on the 1989 action movie, produced by Amazon. Coming up next for him is Guy Ritchie’s forthcoming action-thriller “In the Grey,” where he’ll share screen time with Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Rosamund Pike, and others. Additionally, Jake has signed on for a monster movie called “The Bride!”, directed by his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal. This film also stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, among other talented actors.

Moving forward, Shyamalan’s next film is scheduled for release after 2024’s “Trap,” a movie featuring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, and his daughter, Saleka Night Shyamalan, with the latter contributing original music to the production. Before that, he debuted the apocalyptic psychological horror “Knock at the Cabin” in 2023, which starred Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint.
