As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, FromSoftware, you’ve truly captured my heart with the intricate worlds and challenging gameplay of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, let’s be real here, we all know that your multiplayer aspects can sometimes feel a bit… quirky, right?
In the realm of these games, the lengthy process of summoning phantoms into my world is almost endearing: it’s like inviting spectral companions from another dimension into my RPG adventure. It adds a unique touch that sets your games apart.
In my perspective as an enthusiast, Elden Ring: Nightreign offers straightforward multiplayer features. However, true to FromSoftware’s style, they’ve managed to add layers of complexity that seem unnecessary at times, particularly when it comes to two-player games, which appear to be overlooked for reasons unknown to me.
Meanwhile, FromSoftware is contemplating future updates, LukeYui, the mastermind behind Elden Ring’s groundbreaking seamless co-op mod, stepped forward, glanced at Nightreign, and confidently declared: Indeed, I can make the necessary improvements.
In a recent update on his Patreon blog, LukeYui shared that “Elden Ring: Nightreign came out today. I tried it out this evening and successfully set up a working multiplayer mode without linking to the matchmaking servers (meaning I didn’t have to use EAC).
Let me pause here to highlight that the blog post you’re reading was published just 12 hours ago. The game Nightreign debuted roughly 16 hours prior on PC while I was drafting this article. This means LukeYui managed to create a functional, EAC-free multiplayer mod prototype in only four hours.
One advantage is that you can choose to play with only two players, eliminating the need for matchmaking with strangers. Additionally, there will be opportunities to utilize mods for enhanced replayability and personalization. To top it off, LukeYui hints at a potential increase in player capacity in the future.”
And
“You can play with just two players instead of getting matched up with strangers, which is great. Plus, you’ll have the chance to use mods for added replayability and customization. To make things even better, there might be an increase in player capacity down the line, hinted by LukeYui.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but acknowledge the elephant in the room regarding Nightreign from FromSoftware. Though they haven’t explicitly spoken against modded co-op in Elden Ring, their stance might shift slightly for this upcoming title. It’s essential to understand that Nightreign isn’t a competitive multiplayer game; however, considering the studio’s commitment to providing an immersive gaming experience, I can foresee them being cautious about online elements to prevent hackers from ruining the intended progression for other players. The presence of an anti-cheat system in the game underscores this concern.
LukeYui hasn’t decided to release this mod to the public just yet, but if there is interest, I can prepare a version for distribution. If not, it will remain a work-in-progress project. As for me, I can’t wait to join the Limgrave rave with 50 Guardians taking turns to attack Margit relentlessly – it’s just what he needs!
