It’s Official: Dhanush to play Missile Man of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in biopic with Adipurush director Om Raut

Dhanush is generating buzz due to his upcoming lineup of projects, which includes directing himself and other highly-anticipated ventures. Notably, it was just announced that he will portray the life story of the esteemed Indian figure, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in a biopic.

Filmmaker Om Raut revealed his upcoming project for the first time at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. A sneak peek of the actor from this forthcoming production was shared on X, offering a glimpse into its development.

According to the filmmaker’s statement, “A legendary journey unfolds on screen, starting from Rameswaram and reaching Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prepare for the life story of India’s Missile Man to hit the big screen. Aim high, reach greater heights. #KALAM—India’s The Missile Man is Here.

The upcoming movie will be personally led by Om Raut, while Bhushan Kumar will take on production duties. As of now, no specific release date for the film has been disclosed.

It’s worth noting that this project is Dhanush’s second foray into biopics; his initial collaboration was a biopic on music legend Ilayaraaja, which was initially unveiled at an event in 2024 and will be helmed by Arun Matheswaran.

For some time now, there’s been a considerable amount of excitement surrounding this particular project. However, its creators haven’t provided any recent updates about it yet.

In this project, Dhanush will present the life and creations of the iconic music composer, who will also contribute the musical notes for it.

As for Dhanush’s upcoming endeavors, he has several other projects in store, one of which is Sekhar Kammula’s film titled “Kuberaa.” This multi-star movie is set to premiere on the big screen on June 20, 2025.

Next up, the actor is set to star in a self-directed and acted film titled “Idly Kadai”. This film also features Nithya Menen and Arun Vijay. The release date, initially scheduled for April, has been adjusted to October 1, 2025.

Simultaneously, Dhanush is filming for his Hindi movie titled “Tere Ishq Mein,” helmed by Aanand L. Rai. Kriti Sanon co-stars with him as the main lead.

Additionally, it’s been reported that the actor from Raayan might take up the director role for Tamil actor Ajith Kumar in an upcoming potential collaboration. However, no new information about this prospective venture has emerged as of now.
