As a long-time fan of both the Russo Brothers’ work and Millie Bobby Brown‘s acting prowess, I must say that the first images from “The Electric State” have me absolutely thrilled! The concept of animatronic robots led by Mr. Peanut searching for free will is not only intriguing but also a testament to the Russo Brothers’ knack for blending humor and seriousness in their stories.
The first images from Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State have been released.
In 2025, Netflix will premiere a fresh science fiction movie titled “The Electric State,” which will be helmed by the accomplished directors, the Russo Brothers. The film boasts an impressive cast that includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, along with several other talented actors.
In a new development, Vanity Fair has unveiled initial snapshots from the upcoming film featuring a confrontation between Brown and Pratt’s character, pitted against a squad of mechanical robots controlled by the Planters’ mascot, Mr. Peanut. The robots are on a mission to discover autonomy.
In Joe Russo’s words, “The robots in our movie seem as harmless as can be, but they eventually feel mistreated and yearn for equal treatment with humans. This results in a conflict, which is a striking contrast because these friendly and appealing service bots are now attempting to harm you.

What else do we know about The Electric State?
In the movie “The Electric State”, the character Michelle, who is on a mission to find her supposedly deceased brother, will be played by Maya Hawke (Stranger Things’ Brown). Chris Pratt portrays Keats, a former soldier turned trucker in this storyline. Anthony Mackie lends his voice to Herman, a construction robot, while Woody Harrelson voices the character of Mr. Peanut.
In addition to the main characters, Ke Huy Quan plays Dr. Amherst, Stanley Tucci portrays Ethan Skate, and Giancarlo Esposito takes on the role of Colonel Bradbury. Furthermore, Jenny Slate, Brian Cox, and Alan Tudyk lend their voices to the robots in the movie.
As a gaming enthusiast diving into a fresh adventure, let me share that “The Electric State” is my latest quest! It’s inspired by the 2018 graphic novel of the same name penned by Simon Stålenhag. The masterminds behind this captivating screenplay are none other than Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
As a passionate gamer speaking up, I can share that getting the rights for Woody Harrelson to voice Mr. Peanut wasn’t an instant win. The Russo Brothers had to convince Planters’ parent company, Hormel Foods, about their vision for the character. Initially, they were a bit apprehensive, but eventually, they warmed up to the idea.
Joe Russo explained that they were granted freedom to be creative in their work. This required a careful approach to ensure the film didn’t become too commercial or unrealistic, disrupting the fairy-tale feel. However, they found Mr. Peanut suitable for the design of the other robots and thought it amusing that he served as their moral guide, like Atticus Finch. The most eloquent and considerate robot was a peanut, complete with a cane, top hat, and all.
The Electric State will be released on Netflix in 2025.
