The Taiwanese clothing brand, NAMESAKE, is recognized for blending the world of basketball with luxury streetwear. Over time, their hoops-inspired designs have produced collections like “Home Court,” which pay tribute to prominent athletes such as “Pistol” Pete Maravich, and have even showcased runways delving into the idea of time from a sport’s perspective. Recently, NAMESAKE has collaborated with NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown’s athletic apparel line, 7uice, on a 31-piece collection named “Intellectual Club,” which combines fashion, sports, and community.
Although they both share a passion for basketball, their fashion statement mirrors the intricacies of a chess match: “black and white, offense and defense, power and patience” is how they describe it. Just like in the classic strategy game, each item in their collection and every detail on it is carefully thought out and deliberate, as the brand explained: “each piece is a strategic move, and every detail: a calculated decision.
Throughout their collection, the duo creatively redesign performance pieces and athletic styles, infusing them with sophisticated twists. Among the highlights, a sailor jacket adapts with intricate pleats; zip-up jackets display origami-style creases on their seams, while varsity jackets prominently feature oversized sleeves. Discreet grid patterns are integrated into linen mixes, tropical pineapple leaf fabrics, and heavy wool materials, subtly referencing classic checkerboards.

Remarkably, the collection was introduced during Paris Fashion Week last June, where the brand 7uice arranged an East Coast basketball game between basketball players and a local Parisian team in the 19th district. This line is part of NAMESAKE’s “Offshore” collaborative series, which founders Steve and Michael developed as a heartfelt tribute to their oldest brother, Richard.
