Andy Muschietti ideally wants to make three seasons of It: Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming HBO show titled “It: Welcome to Derry” is a television adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, “It,” which was first published in 1986. Andrei Ovwasapian (who directed the movies “It” from 2017 and “It Chapter Two” from 2019) is collaborating on this project with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs.
In an interview on Radio TU, as reported by BloodyDisgusting, director Muschietti shared his plans for a trilogy titled “It: Welcome to Derry,” consisting of three seasons.

He commented on the series by stating, “The narrative is constructed from the interludes found in the book. These interludes essentially represent Mike Hanlon’s research and are pieces of his investigation. For a period of 27 years, he’s attempting to uncover what it is, what it did, who was involved, and much more.
He went on to say, “They often discuss tragic occurrences from the past such as the blaze in the Black Spot, the Bradley Gang’s bloodbath – a group of bank robbers in the 1930s – and the explosion at Kitchener Ironworks. It seems that whenever [Pennywise] awakens from his slumber, there is a catastrophic event marking the start of each cycle.
Although Derry Season 2 hasn’t been formally approved yet, Muschietti mentioned that each of the possible three seasons would be centered around one of the previously mentioned incidents.
“He mentioned that the narrative unfolds in reverse order. This means that the earliest events occur in the first season, which takes place in 1962. The second season delves into events from 1935, while the third season explores incidents dating back to 1908.”
According to Muschietti, Warner Bros. expressed satisfaction with the outcome of It: Welcome to Derry Season 1, and they are now eagerly looking forward to producing the second season at the earliest opportunity.
In 2025, it’s anticipated that the premiere of “It” (Derry) will take place on both HBO and Max, but a specific launch date is still to be determined.
