While many fans were thrilled, a subset of online users voiced their disapproval over a kissing scene involving Kamal Haasan and Abhirami. This scene ignited a social media discussion about their age difference. In reaction to the controversy, the actress has spoken up to address the issue.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Abhirami admitted that it’s challenging to dodge public scrutiny these days, as conflicts can arise regardless of the situation. However, she didn’t feel it was appropriate for her to challenge Director Mani Ratnam’s artistic vision or casting decisions.

Regarding the frequently debated lip-lock sequence, she explained that it merely spans a brief three seconds. Speaking on the matter, Abhirami expressed, “The scene in question is just a fleeting three-second kiss! The fact that only this brief moment was highlighted in the trailer has created some confusion. However, when you watch the entire film and see how seamlessly it integrates into the storyline, you’ll find it to be quite appropriate. I believe the extent of discussion around it may not be entirely warranted.

She admitted it was probable that the marketing group emphasized that particular scene for advertising purposes, as this tactic is often used in the business. Still, the actress advised viewers not to jump to conclusions without first watching the movie.

Abhirami shares why netizens reacted so strongly to the kissing scene

In that same interview, Abhirami expressed some uncertainty about why the particular scene generated so much interest. She hypothesized it could be due to Kamal Haasan’s reputation for courageously tackling sensitive subjects in his movies. The actress from Thug Life noted how gracefully he handled such scenes in Hey Ram.

Abhirami characterized Kamal Haasan as a daring narrator. In her opinion, whenever he tackles courageous themes, it frequently ignites public debate. She pointed out that while kissing scenes are not uncommon among actors or actresses, when someone as prominent as Kamal Haasan engages in such acts, it typically garners significant attention.

Abhirami ended her thoughts by stating that screen romance is quite prevalent today, and she thinks the viewers will grow increasingly comfortable with it as time goes on.
