In response to Blake Lively’s conflicts with director Justin Baldoni, it appears that the entire cast of “It Ends With Us” supported her stance, as suggested by a recent report from THR. The report claims that the cast refused to promote the movie unless Lively’s preferred version of the film was used for its release.
What do we know about the argument over the It Ends With Us final cut?
According to a recent THR report, further details emerged about the strife between Lively and Baldoni. It seems they both started editing different versions of the movie in April 2024. Despite both sides having finished their final edits for the film, Lively referred to her edit as “Sony’s cut,” a claim that Baldoni and Wayfarer dispute.
Ultimately, as per THR’s findings, the dispute over the final edit wasn’t significantly impactful, as the actors from It Ends With Us ultimately supported Lively’s version. By June 2024, Sony reportedly communicated with Wayfarer and made it clear that neither Lively nor any other cast members would assist in promoting the film unless Lively’s edit was utilized, according to Baldoni’s grievance.
Baldoni claims he was given an ultimatum: either resign as director or cancel the production of the film altogether.
Lively’s initial complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment
Everything originates from a formal complaint that Lively filed against Baldoni in December. In this complaint, she alleged that the filming of It Ends With Us became so intolerable that an urgent meeting was convened to address her allegations of a toxic work environment. During this meeting, Lively requested that Baldoni cease sharing nude videos or pictures of women with her, stop discussing his pornography addiction, stop bringing up sexual encounters in her presence, and also stop commenting on her weight.
The complaint further states that Wayfarer Studios and the cast had agreed to emphasize Lively’s character’s strength and resilience rather than portraying the movie as a narrative about domestic violence. However, according to Lively, Baldoni went back on this agreement by discussing the film’s grave subject matter in interviews instead.
According to Lively, it was alleged that Baldoni and his PR manager, Melissa Nathan, brainstormed strategies for a social media attack aimed at damaging her reputation. The documents submitted by Lively contain around 22 pages of conversations between Baldoni’s representative and Nathan, suggesting they aimed to bury Lively online.
