As a fan of The First Descendant, I’m thrilled to see some progress being made in turning around the game’s initial negative reception on Steam. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for us players, especially after the rocky launch and the deluge of negative reviews due to Nexon’s questionable microtransaction practices. But now, with an uptick in positive reviews and an improving overall score, there’s renewed hope that this game could find its footing and eventually compete with established titles like Destiny 2 and Warframe.
After a disastrous debut marked by a flood of unfavorable reviews on Steam, the player base of First Descendant is optimistically anticipating a significant comeback from developer Nexon. Although it remains to be seen if this looter shooter will ever rival the popularity of established titles such as Destiny 2 and Warframe, some enthusiastic players have recently reported an improvement in the game’s overall Steam reception.
Based on a Reddit post by RelentlessEscapism, The First Descendant’s Steam review score was critically low at 49% just a few days ago. However, there has been a slight improvement with a 4% increase, bringing the game to a more appealing 53%. With an influx of positive feedback emerging, the score could potentially rise even further in the coming weeks. Yet, some individuals remain skeptical about the game’s resurgence due to Nexon’s controversial microtransactions that continue to be a concern.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that many players, including myself, have expressed disappointment over the high prices for in-game items, outfits, and accessories in Nexon games. These expenses have led to an overwhelming number of negative reviews. Unfortunately, Nexon has earned a reputation for being less than transparent throughout their gaming history. Despite some progress with The First Descendant, it’s challenging to shake off the past as players continue to recall these past missteps.
Certainly, review scores, particularly for games with multiple platforms, don’t represent the definitive judgment; The First Descendant’s Steam player base is a significant segment of its larger community, though not the entirety. Ultimately, if you find enjoyment in the game, the development team and existing community should be your primary concerns.
