As a seasoned Path of Exile player with countless hours spent exploring Wraeclast and mastering the intricate web of skills and items, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we approach the Early Access launch of Path of Exile 2. The news that we’ll be able to preload the game 16 hours before the launch is like a breath of fresh air, especially for those of us with less-than-ideal internet speeds.
The start of Early Access for Path of Exile 2 is almost here, sparking excitement in the community and a demand for more details on its release. Among other things, players have been inquiring about the option to preload the game. Developers Grinding Gear Games have debated this feature, expressing concerns that datamining might spoil some of the game’s secrets. However, we now have definitive answers regarding whether or not we can pre-download PoE2 before the Early Access launch.
When can you preload Path of Exile 2 Early Acces?
On a community forum, GGG announced that players can start pre-downloading the game about 16 hours prior to the Early Access release. This means you’ll have the chance to download it ahead of time!
Starting from December 5th (PST), or Dec 06, 2024, 2:00 AM (GMT+1) for those outside PST, Path of Exile 2 Early Access will be approaching. Many players have inquired about pre-downloading the game to guarantee they can play on launch. To cater to this demand, we’ll make the standalone PC client downloadable at 5 pm on December 5th (PST). However, when the patching process begins for Path of Exile 2 Early Access, you might need to update a few remaining files. Once you’ve downloaded the Path of Exile 2 client, you won’t be able to log in until Early Access officially starts at 11 am on December 6th (PST), which is Dec 06, 2024, 8:00 PM (GMT+1). For those unsure about the exact timing, a timer will be available on our website. The client download can be obtained from the Path of Exile 2 website, and we’ll also provide a torrent for simultaneous downloading at the same time.
As an ardent fan, I’m excited to share that the latest update will exclusively be accessible through the Path of Exile client. The developers have hinted at exploring a preload feature for other platforms such as Steam in the future. For Xbox enthusiasts like myself, it’s good news that the pre-download option is already available, offering us an early edge to dive into the game world!
We’re working on making pre-download options available for more platforms in the future. We will post an update here as soon as they are ready. For now, pre-download is already available for Xbox and updates are expected at launch. On PlayStation, founder’s packs are scheduled to go live 24 hours before Early Access starts. Purchasing one of these packs should enable pre-download on your PS5.
Preloading the game, which is approximately 100GB in size, makes perfect sense, especially for players with slower internet connections who might need several hours just to download and install Path of Exile 2. Allowing an opportunity to do this beforehand is a smart move, even if there’s a possibility that some secrets could be uncovered during the preload process. However, we also acknowledge the excitement that comes from unexpected discoveries in games.
