As a seasoned Disney movie aficionado with over two decades of experience under my belt (and a few gray hairs to prove it), I have to say that the prospect of Moana 3 has me more than a little excited! Ever since the enchanting magic of the first film swept me off my feet, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about our favorite ocean-loving heroine.
After the successful debut of Moana 2, movie enthusiasts are speculating if there might indeed be a Moana 3 in our cinematic future. They’re eagerly awaiting any confirmation about its potential release, and are curious to know whether a specific launch date for this possible sequel has been scheduled.
Here’s what we currently know about the potential release date for Moana 3, along with details on its expected arrival.
Is there a Moana 3 release date?
Moana 3 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.
It remains unconfirmed by Disney if there will be a third Moana movie. Nevertheless, given the impressive performance of Moana 2 at the box office, it seems quite probable.
In the post-credit scene of Moana 2, the stage is set for a potential third installment as the overarching foe Nalo, accompanied by Matangi under his control, vents his desire for retribution against Moana and Maui for thwarting his schemes. This time, Tamatoa, a major villain from the original film, also joins in, seeking revenge on Moana and Maui for their deceit towards him.
While an official announcement about Moana 3 is yet to come, there’s a strong anticipation that the Moana universe will expand. If confirmed, Dwayne Johnson’s live-action third Moana film featuring his return as Maui is expected to hit theaters in June 2026.
Where is Moana 3 coming out?
If Moana 3 is verified, produced, and distributed, it’s likely we’ll see it in cinemas. Similar to other Disney films, you can expect it to be streamed on Disney+ at a later date.
Right now, in cinemas, Moana 2 is being screened with a 64% rating from critics and an impressive 87% approval from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. In this movie, Auli’i Cravalho voices the character Moana, while Johnson lends his voice to Maui. The supporting cast includes David Fane, Hualalai Chung, Awhimai Fraser, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, and Rose Matafeo.
