The Immutable figure plays a significant role in both the Invincible comics and animated adaptation, earning renown for his immense lifespan, iron-fisted rule, skepticism towards the principal character, and romantic entanglement with Dupli-Kate. In the recent TV show installment, he takes center stage, though as a different interpretation of the persona, who experiences a disheartening demise. Consequently, viewers are pondering if the Immutable perishes in Invincible Season 3 and the source comic series.
Here is what you need to know about Immortal’s fate in Invincible Season 3 and the comics.
Does Immortal die in Invincible Season 3 and comics?
In Invincible Season 3, the Everlasting Being continues to live, untouched by death. Yet, a variation of this character takes center stage in Episode 4, “You Were My Hero,” and meets an unfortunate end.
The alternate Immortal, who serves as the main antagonist of Episode 4, hails from a bleak future where he is the tyrannical ruler of Earth. He was driven insane by his immortality and immense power. He is also resentful towards his world’s Mark Grayson, blaming him for abandoning Earth with his family and putting Immortal in charge of it. Prime Mark is recruited by Dropkick and Fightmaster, who hails from the bleak future, to help them stop the evil Immortal. The two then fight, and the alternate Immortal pleads with Mark to kill him and end his tyranny. Mark is initially reluctant but complies.
In the comics, Prime Immorтал ultimately meets his demise, but it’s Mark who ends up taking his life in a scenario orchestrated by the Robot.
Before this point, Mark, having witnessed the outcome of an alternate evil character who turned into a tyrant in Issue #54, as portrayed in Episode 4, was determined to prevent such a fate. In the final stages of the series, Mark, who ascended to the throne as Emperor of Viltrum and overthrew the wicked Robot, set things up so that Immortal would lead Earth. Yet, he also made arrangements for Robot’s brain to be preserved in a container, providing insights and assistance to help Immortal govern effectively.
Sadly, Mark failed to anticipate Robot’s malicious disposition. Ultimately, Robot’s programming led Immortal to lose his mind beyond repair, resulting in him seizing control of Earth before meeting his end at the hands of Invincible.
