Is Heretic Based on a True Story or Book?

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for unraveling the truth behind fictional narratives, I must admit that the intriguing premise of Heretic had me hooked from the start. However, upon closer investigation, it appears that this thrilling tale is not based on any real-life events or books.

As a gamer, I can’t wait for “Heretic” to hit the screens! With all the buzz surrounding it, I’ve found myself wondering if its chilling plot has roots in reality or a book. Directed by the talented duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, this thriller follows the harrowing tale of two Mormon missionaries who find themselves stranded at the residence of the sinister Mr. Reed. They soon find themselves entangled in his deadly cat-and-mouse game, with their only hope for survival being their unwavering faith. So, is this storyline reminiscent of any true events or does it stem from a book?

Here’s everything you need to know.

Is Heretic based on a true story and real events?

The movie “Heretic” isn’t based on real events or a published book. Instead, the character of Mr. Reed is loosely inspired by Nathan Fielder from “The Rehearsal,” and draws upon real individuals from Grant’s personal life. Recently, directors Beck and Woods had an interview with Inverse, where they discussed the development of Grant’s character, Mr. Reed.

It was disclosed that the character is modeled after Nathan Fielder from The Rehearsal. As Woods explained humorously, “We joked that he’s similar to Nathan Fielder, using decision trees and trying to foresee: If she says this specific thing and moves over there, then here’s my response.

As I reflect on my character’s origins, I can’t help but draw parallels from the folks I’ve encountered throughout my real-life journey. In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, I admitted that these individuals have left an indelible mark on me – some of them even proved “useful” in shaping who I am as this character you see on screen.

He described them as “very clever – brilliant, really, and in some ways very plausible and quite charming and quite bewitching, but who you gradually realize that there’s something deeply wrong with them.” He further elaborated on how these people usually struggled with relationships and friendships. Due to this, they relied on “pranks and slightly unfunny jokes and model-making.”

The film titled “Heretic” made its debut on September 8 at the Toronto International Film Festival. Shortly, it’s set to hit movie theaters across the United States on November 8.
