I nearly overlooked the Esquire chat featuring Anthony Mackie about Captain America 4, which incidentally delves into the topic of Donald Trump.
Marvel is keeping some plot details secret, but we can confirm that Ford will significantly expand his wardrobe to take on the role of Red Hulk, a persona of Thaddeus Ross. Mackie has already watched the movie and shared his thoughts: “It’s truly the best film it could be. It adheres to the Marvel style, the Captain America style, and it’s enjoyable and grand.” Despite high anticipation, Brave New World has faced whispers about an abundance of reshoots. Quick to dismiss such speculation, Mackie remarks: “Every movie produced by Marvel, every film from DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, Disney – they all have reshot scenes.
He proposes an analogous relaxed approach to the unavoidable comparisons linking the Red Hulk character and President Trump, suggesting that perhaps the public is growing weary of political disputes. When asked about potential fan connections, he expresses his hope that people will simply enjoy the film without delving into such comparisons. He casually comments, “Why don’t we just sit back, relax at the movies?” and goes on to joke that even if they had made the Hulk yellow, it would have caused issues.
Cough. It’s not about the character’s skin color causing problems, but whether the portrayed characteristics are influenced by how leftists view Trump. Also, Mackie’s lecture that Captain America shouldn’t symbolize the USA didn’t sit well with many people. This kind of publicity move is why we can’t assume the movie itself won’t contain anti-conservative bias. By the way, it’s questionable for an actor to critique a film he stars in, so his statement feels more like self-praise than an ethical review.
Marvel Reassures Fans Israeli Hero Sabra Still Appears in “Captain America: Brave New World”…. Sort Of
In my opinion, it’s intriguing to note that the character of Sabra, initially conceived by Bill Mantlo in the 80s, has undergone some significant changes. As reported by Variety, even her original superpowers have been discarded for this latest adaptation. Originally, she was an Israeli Mossad agent and a superheroine, but it seems that version of her has been reimagined in this new take on the character.
Moreover, not only Sabra’s connections with Mossad have been severed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but also her extraordinary powers like superhuman strength and speed have been removed from her character, as Moore clarified.
Moore stated, “She’s no longer a mutant; she’s connected with the Red Room (as seen in ‘Black Widow’).” He explained, “Our goal was to create the best rendition of this character while remaining faithful to her origins, but not following the exact path set by previous publications.” In other words, they wanted to preserve the character’s essence without resorting to comic book tropes such as dressing her in a feather boa and having her hurl diamond earrings at people. Instead, they admired the character’s attitude.
frankly, I share your sentiment; this doesn’t seem appealing to me either. It appears to be poorly executed writing, and given that she isn’t associated with the Israeli government, and possibly has limited ties to Israel, it seems even less enticing than initially thought. In the comics, Steve Rogers worked alongside many heroes who were more powerful than him, Falcon being just one example, and this film adaptation should adopt a similar approach. However, since Steve is no longer the main character, I’m struggling to see the purpose beyond the diversity casting. They could have used Natasha Romanoff instead, but if I recall correctly, they abandoned that possibility after she sacrificed herself in one of the last Avengers movies. The spokesperson for the film also seems to have made a mistake regarding Sabra’s weaponry, as her projectiles were quill-style energy weapons, not earrings.
Ultimately, it’s evident that the PC (whatever it stands for in this context) has had detrimental effects on all characters portrayed in this movie. Although I can’t predict its success at the ticket counter, I must admit my interest is waning because, given its likely politically correct nature, there’s a strong possibility it will turn out to be a chaotic jumble.
