As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement over the arrival of the teaser trailer for Shrek 5! Rumors are swirling about whether Antonio Banderas will reprise his iconic role as Puss in Boots, the charming feline ally who first appeared in Shrek 2. Since then, he’s been a part of Shrek’s adventures in Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. In the last installment, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, we saw him setting sail towards Far Far Away – a move that certainly hints at a potential reunion with our beloved ogre, Shrek. But will he make an appearance in Shrek 5? Only time will tell!

Will Antonio Banderas’ Puss in Boots be in Shrek 5’s cast?
Currently, it hasn’t been officially announced that Antonio Banderas will reprise his role as Puss in Boots for Shrek 5.
In a recent chat with Parade magazine, Banderas was queried about the potential upcoming Shrek movie. He stated, “At this point, I haven’t been reached out to, and I haven’t received any calls for it.” However, he didn’t completely dismiss the idea.
There’s a possibility that Puss might be connected to the situation, given how Puss in Boots: The Last Wish concluded. The film narrates Puss’ journey in search of the Wishing Star to reclaim his nine lives. Eventually, he understands the importance of his last life and embarks on another exciting journey.
Cat trio, Softpaws Kitty, and Perrito were recently spotted setting sail towards Distant Land, seeking out old acquaintances. Since that realm serves as the backdrop for Shrek films, a surprise appearance could be on the cards – maybe even foreshadowing Puss in Boots 3. Nonetheless, no official announcements have hinted at this possibility.
For now, fans will have to wait for an official confirmation regarding Banderas’ involvement.
The upcoming movie Shrek 5 is the first one in the series since Shrek Forever After (2010). Originally, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are all set to reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona respectively. What’s exciting is that Zendaya has joined the cast to voice Shrek’s daughter in this new installment.
The film is set to hit theaters on December 23, 2026.
