Ironheart Fans Won’t Be Happy With Black Panther Director’s New Update

Ryan Coogler, executive producer of Ironheart, has spoken about whether Riri Williams might reappear in Ironheart Season 2 or show up in Black Panther 3. In a recent interview, he touched on her growing significance within the MCU, the introduction of Mephisto, and how Marvel’s approach aligns with a more intricate storyline for Riri Williams’ future development.

Ryan Coogler says he doesn’t ‘know jack sh–t’ about Ironheart’s MCU future

In a recent chat with Variety, Ryan Coogler discussed Riri Williams’ upcoming appearance and, when inquired about a potential second season or Black Panther 3, responded nonchalantly by stating, “I honestly don’t have a clue,” before expressing his readiness for whatever projects Chinaka and Kevin are planning next.

Thorne added her thoughts on Marvel’s approach to Riri Williams’ storyline. “True Marvel enthusiasts understand that Marvel always has a purpose,” she stated. “So, realizing they’ve decided to bring Mephisto into play alongside Riri Williams and Parker Robbins suggests a well-thought-out strategy and a significant role in the broader narrative.

When I finally saw his real name in the script, it felt something like ‘Wow, that’s the Reddit user! The one from all the gossip. He’s in this production?’

Ryan Coogler, who collaborated with Proximity Media on Ironheart, discussed the character’s development. “I appreciate the compactness we have in this series,” he commented, highlighting the transition from “two kids simply finding their way” to Riri encountering a “powerful, almost mythical figure.” He added, “As you watch the show, it feels like, ‘Ah, that’s how you were always meant to meet him [Mephisto].’

Chinaka Hodge, the head writer, described Mephisto’s introduction as a joint effort, while Zoie Nagelhout, the producer, mentioned that he replaced Dormammu for a more fitting theme. Hodge also stated that Mephisto provided an intriguing and elevated way to connect the characters’ narratives, with a special focus on Riri’s journey.

Angela Barnes, the director of the episode revealing Mephisto, proposed the idea of casting Sacha Baron Cohen. As Nagelhout explained, “She presented it, and once we saw it, we couldn’t imagine anyone else for the role.” And we feel incredibly fortunate that he agreed to play Mephisto, because at that point, I don’t believe we could have envisioned anyone else embodying the character.

Ironheart is now available for streaming on Disney+.
