Ironheart: Anthony Ramos Opens Up on Showing His Villainous Side in MCU Show

As a fan who has followed Anthony Ramos‘ career since his breakout role in Hamilton, I must say I am thrilled to see him taking on such a diverse range of characters. From the lovable Usnavi in In the Heights to the enigmatic Shift in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Ramos has shown an impressive ability to embody complex and compelling personas.

Anthony Ramos is opening up about why he’s excited to be playing a bad guy in Marvel’s Ironheart.

In June 2025, Ramos will take on the character of Parker Robbins/The Hood in the Disney+ series Ironheart, where Dominique Thorne continues her role as Riri Williams/Ironheart, a character she first played in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. This is part of the Marvel Studios continuity.

When speaking to ComingSoon, Ramos was questioned about his experience playing a villain, considering he’s typically cast as likeable protagonists in films like 2021’s In the Heights and 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

What did Anthony Ramos say about his Ironheart villain?

I must say, it’s quite thrilling for me. I’m finding myself stepping into some intriguing antagonist roles lately. Even in films like Twisters, I wasn’t the typical hero, if you catch my drift? It seems we all have our darker sides, don’t we? I’m glad you recognize that. It’s heartening to hear such compliments. Truth be told, it makes taking on these roles even more satisfying. After all, aren’t some of our favorite movie villains still quite captivating, like the Joker? You know, characters where you think, ‘Wow, I truly admire this individual, but they’re undeniably wicked.’ It adds a unique charm to the performance, doesn’t it?

Each villain has their motives, man. They might seem unjustifiable to you, but they have their reasons for acting the way they do. In their perspective, what they’re doing is justified and necessary. As an actor, delving into the mind of a wrongdoer who believes in their cause is fascinating. It’s been intriguing to explore this dynamic not just with The Hood, but also with other characters I portray.

Ironheart will premiere on June 24, 2025, on Disney+.
