As a gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I read about Adam Boyes’ departure from Iron Galaxy. This is a man who has been instrumental in shaping some of the games that have brought me endless hours of joy and frustration alike!
2024 marks the departure of one of Iron Galaxy’s CEOs, Adam Boyes, who has been instrumental in developing games like Killer Instinct, Rumbleverse, Divekick, and several notable Nintendo Switch ports. He has revealed his intention to embark on a new, as-yet-unknown venture, closing out an eventful Thursday for the Chicago-based game developer.
Boyes posted the following on the Iron Galaxy website:
Eight years ago, I began a professional journey alongside some old friends at Iron Galaxy. By year’s end, I’ll be setting off on another exciting chapter. Over the course of my career, I’ve often felt drawn to explore new opportunities or take on fresh challenges. My decision to stay at Iron Galaxy for twice as long as any other job speaks volumes about the unique work culture here and the exceptional individuals who make it their home.
Over these last eight years, we’ve accomplished some truly extraordinary feats together. The memories of watching the Rumbleverse community unite in a space we built from scratch will always be etched in my mind (Who would have thought we’d become such an integral part!). At Iron Galaxy, we’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the greatest minds in gaming on top-notch games that money can’t buy. It’s been a humbling experience to assist our partners in strengthening their game worlds. Thank you for letting us join your creative journey and for entrusting us with the care of your communities, working alongside you every step of the way.
All those ongoing endeavors will persist at Iron Galaxy, as I am just one piece of this dedicated team. They remain steadfast in their pursuit of extraordinary achievements. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the individuals who invited me to share in their leadership journey. A big thank you goes out to Dave Lang for placing faith in me to explore the limits of Iron Galaxy’s potential. Another heartfelt thanks is extended to Chelsea Blasko for imparting valuable insights on cultivating a robust company culture – Iron Galaxy could not be in more capable hands with you as its sole CEO.
As someone who has spent the better part of my life immersed in the gaming industry, I can confidently say that it holds a special place in my heart. However, after much contemplation and soul-searching, I have come to realize that this chapter of my journey is coming to an end. Yet, fear not, dear comrades, for I am not vanishing into thin air just yet. I shall remain a member of this esteemed team until the clock strikes twelve on the final day of the year.
Working at Iron Galaxy has been my most rewarding experience yet. It’s odd to express this while announcing my departure, but we must always listen to our hearts. Crafting video games is a labor of love for those who share this passion, and our industry requires dedicated individuals now more than ever. Rest assured, you haven’t seen the last of me, and Iron Galaxy will continue to thrive.
In simpler terms, The part of Boyes’ statement about addressing issues for game developers and the possibility of future collaboration with Iron Galaxy is open to various interpretations. For the time being, Boyes will fulfill his duties until the end of the year, after which Chelsea Blasko will take over as the sole CEO, alongside founder Dave Lang. Since November 2020, they have shared the role of Co-CEOs, with David ‘DeeJ’ Dague from Bungie joining their team at the same time. Shacknews had previously interviewed Boyes, Blasko, and Dague following this leadership change, and you can watch the whole interview by clicking on the embedded link below.
Initially, Boyes started working with Iron Galaxy Studios in the year 2016, following a four-year tenure as Vice President of External Relations at PlayStation. Prior to this, he held positions such as Executive Producer at Midway Games and Director of Production at Capcom. Upon his arrival at Iron Galaxy, they were wrapping up work on Killer Instinct. Since then, he has been instrumental in managing subsequent projects by the studio, including Rumbleverse, which debuted towards the end of 2022 but was regrettably shut down less than half a year later.
We’ll closely monitor Boyes’ upcoming location and the next venture by Iron Galaxy. Stay tuned to Shacknews for more information.
