As TikTok was temporarily banned then reinstated in the U.S., under President Donald Trump’s orders, Instagram decided to step up their game by launching a fresh editing app for their users and content creators. They’ve shared some intriguing details about this new application and its exciting features, leaving many of us curious and eager to learn more. So, what exactly is this new Instagram editing app all about? Let’s find out!
Here is what Instagram has shared about their new editing app.
Instagram shares details on editing app amid TikTok ban
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, shared news about new features called “Edits” on both Instagram and its sister app Threads. This announcement came following the temporary ban and reinstatement of TikTok. The Edits are designed to cater to video creators who produce short clips using their mobile phones.
“Mosseri referred to Edits as not just a video editing tool, but a comprehensive set of artistic resources,” he stated in his update. He proceeded to list these key features which represent the core functionalities and richness of the platform:
1. Advanced video editing tools
2. A variety of creative filters
3. Professional-grade sound effects
4. Easy-to-use animation options
5. Collaboration capabilities for team projects
6. Customizable templates to suit any style or theme
7. Access to a vast library of stock footage and images
8. Streamlined exporting options to share work seamlessly across platforms
- A dedicated tab that would give inspiration to users for content.
- Trending audios users can use on their videos.
- A tab that would allow users to keep track of their ideas, including rough drafts.
- A new high-quality camera.
- All of the tools are typically found in video-editing apps.
- Ability to share drafts with friends and fellow content creators
- Powerful insights are offered to users who decide to share videos they made on Edits as reels on Instagram.
Mosseri additionally discussed the app’s launch specifics. He announced that the Edits app is now up for pre-order on the Apple App Store, and he hinted at a forthcoming Android version.
Despite Mosseri’s statement suggesting that Edits would debut in February, it appears the actual launch date, according to the App Store, is March 13, 2025.
As a passionate gamer and an integral part of the development team here, I’ve spent countless hours collaborating with content creators on shaping our upcoming app. In the forthcoming weeks, we’ll be reaching out to even more content creators for valuable feedback. However, it’s important to note that the initial release won’t be fully polished. So, I kindly ask for your patience as we work tirelessly to bring this creation into your hands. Frankly, I can hardly contain my excitement!
Mosseri also compared Edits to CapCut, a platform that faced bans as well. However, he emphasized that Edits is primarily designed for content creators, rather than casual video makers.
