Shabareesh Varma stars in ‘Inspection Bungalow,’ a new 7-episode horror-comedy series that premiered on November 14, 2025. It’s the first Malayalam-language series to blend these genres, and was directed by Saiju SS.
If you’re planning to watch the series this weekend, here’s the TopMob review.
The Plot
The story unfolds in the made-up village of Aravangad, centering around Sub-Inspector Vishnu – a hesitant and easily frightened officer. When their police station deteriorates, Vishnu and his team are compelled to move into the Inspection Bungalow, a building with a reputation for being haunted.
The show follows a team working from a bungalow who quickly find themselves caught up in a series of funny, spooky events. The story centers on a shy officer and a paranormal investigator as they try to figure out what’s causing all the chaos and unravel the bungalow’s secrets, all told with a lighthearted, comedic approach.
The Good
Inspection Bungalow is a unique series – the first Malayalam horror-comedy of its kind. It tells its story in a relaxed and humorous way, mixing sitcom-style jokes with spooky elements. This approach is likely to remind viewers of popular Malayalam TV shows from the early to mid-2000s.
The story isn’t groundbreaking, but the show is quick and easy to watch. With only seven short episodes, around 20 minutes each, and a good group of actors, it’s perfect for a casual binge.
The screenplay has some funny moments and gets a few laughs, but ultimately it doesn’t really stand out, despite showing promise.
The Bad
Inspection Bungalow has potential, but ultimately doesn’t deliver. It starts with an uninspired idea and is let down by weak special effects and moments that feel unintentionally funny.
The lack of effort is really noticeable, particularly in scenes that are supposed to be funny or scary, which end up feeling overdone and unbelievable.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m all about investing in things that truly resonate, and honestly, this show just didn’t deliver. It started with promise, but quickly fell flat – I just couldn’t connect with it emotionally. The plot felt incredibly predictable; it’s a revenge story we’ve seen done so many times before, and every ‘shocking’ twist was obvious from the start. It’s just…tired, and I need entertainment that feels fresh and engaging.
The show maintains a good pace, but its reliance on familiar jokes and slapstick feels uninspired. It leaves you questioning why you’d choose this over similar, and often better, films from the past.
The show isn’t just poorly written; the technical side is also lacking. The uninspired visuals and bland music don’t create any atmosphere and often feel as short and disposable as a quick Instagram video you’d want to skip past.
The Performances
The actors, including Shabareesh Varma, Senthil Krishna Rajamani, and Shaju Sreedhar, deliver performances that show potential. However, their acting ultimately feels passable and doesn’t quite stand out.
While the show has some general weaknesses, Aadhya Prasad’s performance is particularly problematic. Her character is meant to be dramatic, but it comes across as forced and unnatural, leading to some awkward scenes.

The Verdict
Inspection Bungalow is a fairly typical horror-comedy. It’s not particularly outstanding, but it’s light and enjoyable enough for a single viewing.
