As a die-hard fan of the Insidious franchise who has lived through every chilling jump scare and spine-tingling twist since its inception in 2010, I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I heard about the delay in the release of Insidious 6. However, the news that the movie is still in development offers a glimmer of hope that we haven’t seen the last of the haunting Lambert family just yet.
As per Jeff Sneider’s recent update, the scheduled release of Insidious 6 has been pushed back. Nevertheless, production on the movie continues at Blumhouse.
According to the latest update from Sneider in The InSneider newsletter, Sony and Blumhouse are still searching for an approved script for the upcoming movie. Consequently, the scheduled release date on August 29, 2025 might be subject to change due to this delay.
Insidious 6 still in development despite reported delay
Regarding the delay, Sneider’s report indicates that the film is still being worked on. It remains uncertain if this delay affects the Insidious spin-off movie, Thread: An Insidious Tale, or if that particular project will be unaffected by it altogether.
“On July 7, 2023, the final movie in the Insidious series, titled ‘Insidious: The Red Door’, was unveiled. The original cast members, including Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins, reprised their roles for this film. Interestingly, Wilson took on the director’s role for his first major film project. With a production budget of $16 million, Insidious: The Red Door was a massive success, earning an impressive $189 million globally for Sony.
The Insidious series debuted in 2010 under the guidance of director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell. From its initial release, it led to two direct follow-ups and two prequels. The collection of films encompasses Insidious from 2010, Insidious: Chapter 2 in 2013, Insidious: Chapter 3 in 2015, Insidious: The Last Key in 2018, and another film titled Insidious: The Red Door, also released in 2018. Collectively, these five movies have amassed over $730 million at the global box office.
