As an avid enthusiast of Indiana Jones and all things adventure gaming, I must say, the anticipation for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been palpable. The game’s release from MachineGames promises to be a thrilling journey that could potentially catapult the franchise into new heights.
The long-awaited adventure game, Indiana Jones: The Great Circle, has emerged from the crypts of MachineGames. As of now, release date sales figures are unavailable (it officially launches on December 9, 2024), but it’s been garnering positive reviews. This success could potentially expand the Indiana Jones series within the gaming industry. In the words of Douglas Reilly, vice president and general manager at Lucasfilm Games, the team is always on the hunt for compelling narratives.
Will Indiana Jones game franchise grow if The Great Circle is successful?
During an interview with Variety, Reilly hinted at the potential continuation of Indiana Jones as an ongoing gaming series. While nothing has been conclusively decided yet, there appears to be a chance that additional Indiana Jones tales could be shared through the interactive gaming platform.
Currently, our primary goal is to release this project to the public, expand it with DLC, and ensure its success as much as possible, stated Reilly. “We’re constantly on the lookout for compelling narratives,” he added. “The exciting thing is, there are numerous opportunities in-between the movies where we could share even more Indiana Jones adventures that I believe would be incredibly intriguing.
The storyline for Indiana Jones: The Great Circle unfolds during the years between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, making it the chronological sequel. The Temple of Doom, however, serves as a prequel, taking place a year prior to Raiders. This means that Indy’s escapades are chronicled from 1935 up until 1938. Further adventures of Indiana Jones can be explored in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (set in 1957) and Dial of Destiny (set in 1969). Given the lengthy gap between The Last Crusade and Crystal Skull, this period could provide an interesting starting point for developing another Indiana Jones game.

Indiana Jones-themed video games (often called Indy games) have been popular ever since the original game based on Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in 1982 for the Atari 2600. This marked the beginning of the iconic character’s foray into digital adventures. Since then, numerous titles related to the franchise have emerged, including a Lego adaptation by Traveller’s Tales. The latest Indiana Jones game for consoles since 2009’s Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is titled The Great Circle.
