As a long-time follower of the Malayalam film industry and someone who has witnessed numerous scandals unfold over the years, I must say that this Siddique case is particularly distressing. The delay in filing a complaint by the victim, Revathy, and the subsequent questioning by the Supreme Court Justice seem to me like an unjustified attack on her character.
Actor Siddique from Malayalam cinema has received anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, following its rejection by the Kerala High Court previously. In a hearing at the top court on November 19th, the victim was asked about the reason for waiting eight years before filing a police report and instead sharing the issue through a social media post first.
According to accounts, Justice Bela M. Trivedi inquired about the victim, Revathy, and criticized her by stating something along the lines of, “You found the strength to share your story on Facebook, but didn’t visit the police station?
Instead, the legal representative for the victim responded to the claim by bringing up the conclusions from the Hema Committee’s report, a document that had bolstered her confidence to share her story, as she felt the powers-that-be would heed her testimony.
On November 12, initial news emerged that an extension had been granted for Siddique’s temporary protective bail.
On Siddique’s behalf, senior legal representatives contended that the investigating authorities had demanded his official papers, despite the fact that he had merely encountered the complainant a single time throughout his lifetime.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Police also made claims that the actor wasn’t fully cooperating with them, suggesting his answers during interrogation were not clear enough.
Siddique sat down for not one, but two question-and-answer sessions with a specialized investigative unit (Specialized Investigation Team – SIT), concerning the matter at hand.
In 2021, when she was just 16, Revathy first reported an incident where the actor had allegedly abused her. She claimed that he called her his “daughter” prior to the sexual assault that followed.
