As a true crime enthusiast who has followed the chilling case of Thomas Randolph, also known as the “Black Widower,” I find myself utterly captivated by ID’s new documentary, “The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph.” Having watched the three-part series that aired on July 15, 2024, I can’t help but be in awe of the complex and twisted storyline.

ID’s latest documentary, titled “The Black Widower: The Mysterious Deaths of Thomas Randolph,” delves back into this intriguing case. This three-part series premiered on the network on Monday, July 15, 2024. As per IMDb, the summary goes, “Thomas Randolph has been married six times, and four of these spouses have passed away under suspicious circumstances. Consequently, some people refer to this Nevada resident as a ‘Black Widower’.”

I’m a huge fan of Thomas Randolph’s fascinating life story. He was married six times to women: Kathryn Thomas, Becky Gault, Gayna Allmon, Francis Randolph, Leona Stapleton, and Sharon Causse. However, I can’t help but notice that four of these unions ended in rather suspicious circumstances. Tragically, the death of my beloved sixth wife, Sharon Causse, eventually led to Thomas’ conviction in 2023.

In the beginning, Randolph asserted that an intruder killed Causse during a break-in at their home in 2008. He further stated that he had subsequently shot and killed the intruder, identified as Michael Miller, who was a handyman. However, upon closer examination, it was discovered that Randolph had actually hired Miller to carry out the crime for him, enabling him to collect insurance benefits. Furthermore, there were allegations against Randolph for the murder of his second wife in 1986; these accusations led to a trial, but he was later found not guilty three years afterwards.

An ID documentary series released recently explores the intriguing deaths of Thomas Randolph’s four spouses. This three-episode series revisits the evidence from his previous trials, which occurred in 1989. Furthermore, it examines the facts leading to his final conviction in 2023 for the murders of Sharon Causse and Michael Miller.

Who were the wives of Black Widower Thomas Randolph?

According to Law & Crime, Thomas Randolph was married to six women: Kathryn Thomas, Rebecca Gault, Gayna Allmon, Francis Randolph, Leona Stapleton, and Sharon Causse. In 1986, he became a murder suspect following the death of his second wife, Gault, but was not found guilty. However, in 2017, he went on trial for allegedly killing his sixth wife, Causse, along with her partner Michael Miller. The outcome was a guilty verdict, which was later overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court. Nevertheless, Randolph was retried in 2023 and received a 60-year prison sentence.

Thomas Randolph, now referred to as the Black Widower, exchanged vows with Kathryn Thomas in 1975 when he was just 18 years old. However, during his initial trial, he was described as domineering, manipulative, and psychologically harmful to Kathryn. Their marriage came to an end in 1983, following which Randolph wed Becky Gault in the same year. Tragically, Gault passed away three years later.

Based on the Las Vegas Sun report, Randolph asserted that Becky Gault took her own life at their Utah residence in 1986. He stated that he discovered her body a day after she expressed intentions of suicide. According to his account, they had argued over his refusal to purchase cocaine together, leading to her threat. Subsequently, Randolph recounted telling her to go ahead and leaving the house, returning the following day to find her deceased from a gunshot wound. His initial trial occurred in 1989, resulting in an acquittal.

Gayna Allmon, Thomas Randolph’s third spouse, declared that he had attempted to end her life. At the first trial, she mentioned that an accidental gunshot occurred near her while Randolph was cleaning the weapon. Later, Francis, one of his other wives, died in April 2004 following heart surgery, with her cremation happening within hours after her demise. Leona Stapleton, his fifth wife, is reported to have lost her life due to cancer.)

In the year 2008, Sharon Causse, who was Randolph’s sixth wife, passed away under suspicious circumstances during an apparent home invasion. According to Randolph, they had just returned from a dinner date when an intruder entered their home and shot and killed Sharon. However, it was later discovered by investigators that Randolph had actually hired Michael Miller, a handyman, to carry out the murder. The motive behind this heinous act was believed to be the collection of over $300,000 in insurance claims.

Thomas Randolph faced a trial in 2017 for allegedly committing the murders of Causse and Miller. A jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and conspiring to commit murder, leading to a death penalty. However, due to the prosecution using evidence from Randolph’s earlier 1986 trial during the proceedings, the Nevada Supreme Court overturned the conviction. The court believed that sharing information about the two trials was excessively biased against Randolph.

Despite this, a new trial held in 2023 resulted in a conviction for the same offenses. Randolph was given a 60-year prison term and currently resides in Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center.
