As a long-time Outlander fanatic, who’s seen more than a few seasons of time travel and Scottish highlands, I can’t help but feel like the universe is conspiring against me. The anticipation for Season 8 has been building up like a storm, and yet here we are, looking at a 2026 release date. I mean, they’ve wrapped filming already!
Although we’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of Outlander Season 8 as soon as possible, I’m preparing myself for its release in 2026, even though production on the series has already been wrapped up.
Upon discovering that filming wouldn’t commence until late this year, I had an inkling that the release might not occur until 2026. And even though it means that Droughtlander will be prolonged, it’s actually a positive development. It implies that we won’t get to see the final season for a while yet. Once Season 8 of Outlander airs, the series will have concluded its run.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is slated for 2025 on Starz
Next year, we’ll be getting a new “Outlander” series, and it’s a prequel titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” that fans have long anticipated. This series will focus on the romantic tale of Jamie’s parents, as well as Claire’s parents, a storyline much-loved by many. Starz has officially confirmed its release for 2025.
Is it plausible that the network would air two shows from the same franchise in the same year? From a business perspective, this might not be the most effective strategy. Given that many viewers only subscribe to Starz for Outlander, once the episodes have been shown, some of these subscribers may choose to cancel their subscriptions and not return.
It seems wiser to space out the two performances, considering fans won’t experience the same prolonged gap between episodes as they did with “Blood of My Blood.
It takes time to get through Outlander Season 8 post production
Approximately the same duration is required for post-production as for filming. Given this, we anticipate that it will take approximately 6 to 8 months for ‘Outlander’ Season 8.
It seems the series might be out around early to mid-2025. However, it’s uncertain if Starz will release it at that time due to other commitments like “Outlander: Blood of My Blood”. Also, they may want to ensure the series is perfect, which could involve reshoots or additional voice recording (ADR), both of which could extend the production timeline.
Given the current scenario, if Starz were intending to air Outlander Season 8 in 2025, I believe we would have heard about it by now. It seems that Starz might be adopting a cautious approach, considering other shows have been delayed until 2025 as well.
My gut is just saying 2026. I hope I’m wrong and we get it at the end of 2025 to keep Droughtlander shorter, but in a way, I’m ready for 2026 as the goodbye year to this series.
