Iconic Sega Games Are Getting Remasters

Sega is reviving Ecco the Dolphin after more than two decades, offering several remastered versions along with a fresh new installment. Unfortunately, we may have to wait a while longer for further updates on these upcoming titles.

Sega classics Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time are getting remastered

According to Wario64’s observation, a timer can be seen on the official Ecco the Dolphin website. Usually, when a company puts up a countdown clock, it suggests an announcement is coming very soon. However, this doesn’t seem to apply to these Sega remasters, as the timer runs out in approximately 355 days from now.

During a recent conversation with Xbox, Ed Annunziata, the creator of Ecco the Dolphin, shared that the entire original team is currently developing remastered versions for the initial installment and its sequel Ecco: The Tides of Time. Moreover, they are also working on a new game in the series, which will feature modern gameplay and graphics suitable for today’s hardware.

As a passionate gamer speaking here, I’m thrilled to announce that the original team and I are diving back into the vibrant underwater world of Ecco the Dolphin! We’re not just polishing the classics – Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time will be given a fresh coat of paint. But that’s not all, we’ve got something even more exciting brewing: a brand-new chapter in this beloved series, designed with modern gameplay mechanics and state-of-the-art graphics in mind. So, keep your fins crossed and check out eccothedolphin.com for updates!

Back in 1992, Ecco the Dolphin first made its splash on the Sega Genesis console. Later, it was also available for Sega CD, Master System, and Game Gear. More recently, this classic game has resurfaced on contemporary platforms such as the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo 3DS.

1994 saw the arrival of Ecco: The Tides of Time, a follow-up to the original that came out only two years prior. It made its debut on Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and Sega CD. Additionally, a sequel was released for the Nintendo Wii, and it was included in Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, accessible on both PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

There isn’t a lot known yet about the third game within the Ecco the Dolphin series. But in roughly 8528 hours from now, we should probably find out more details.
