As a gamer with a soft spot for cinema history, I can’t help but be utterly smitten by the recent auction results that saw Indiana Jones‘ iconic fedora fetch a cool $630,000! Growing up watching Harrison Ford leap from one adventure to another, I remember dreaming of finding such treasures hidden away in my very own attic. Alas, I could only muster the courage to raid my parents’ closet for costumes on Halloween.
Few film characters are as widely recognized as Indiana Jones, often imitated or joked about in numerous other works.
Given the circumstances, it’s not surprising at all that an authentic collectible piece, such as Indiana Jones’ famous hat, would fetch a high selling price.
$630,000 For Indy’s Fedora
The questioned hat wasn’t featured in the first Indiana Jones film. Instead, it was designed exclusively for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and it belonged to Dean Ferrandini’s personal collection.
Ferrandini was Harrison Ford’s stunt double.
The fedora was worn mostly during the first few scenes, for example in the plane crash scene.
You may find yourself thinking: “Anyone could say ‘that fedora resembles the one Indiana Jones wore.’ However, it has a unique design feature that distinguishes it from other hats of its kind.”
The initials IJ were stitched into the inside of the hat in gold. And that made it worth $630k!
At the auction, various other items were up for grabs, such as a wand that Daniel Radcliffe used (valued at $53,550), a suit sported by Daniel Craig in Skyfall ($35,000) and an authentic Scout Trooper Helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which fetched $315,000.
What do you think? Would you like to collect iconic items from classic movies?
