As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for ’90s slasher franchises, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel to “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Having grown up on the original trilogy, the prospect of seeing Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise his role as Ray Bronson is a dream come true. Add to that the addition of Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who stole the show in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” and I’m positively giddy!
In a new development for the follow-up to “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” four additional actors have been brought on board, among them Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who gained recognition from his role in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about one of my favorite slasher franchises! Sony Pictures is breathing new life into it by creating a sequel movie to the 1997 blockbuster hit. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for her work on “Someone Great,” will be directing this new chapter.
Who else is in the I Know What You Did Last Summer cast?
Apart from the well-known General Hospital actor, who’s been in the spotlight for his work on Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel is also bringing on board Lola Tung (from The Summer I Turned Pretty), Austin Nichols (known for The Day After Tomorrow and John From Cincinnati), and newcomer Gabbriette, a musician and model. This will mark Gabbriette’s debut in feature films as an actress.
The newcomers will be part of the ensemble that was earlier revealed to include Jonah Hauer-King, Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, and Tyriq Withers.
Writers Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson are working on the script for the upcoming Sony reboot, with Neal Moritz overseeing production. While specific details about the sequel remain scarce, it is expected to premiere in theaters on July 18, 2025.
The movie that debuted in cinemas in 1997, which was the first of the series, led to two additional films: “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” from 1998 and “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” a standalone sequel released in 2006.
