I Am Legend 2 Director: Steven Caple Jr. in Talks to Helm Sequel

As a die-hard fan of Will Smith and I Am Legend, I am beyond excited about the potential of Steven Caple Jr. being the director for the long-awaited sequel! The news of his involvement brings a fresh wave of hope and anticipation for what’s to come. Caple Jr.’s experience in directing blockbuster films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and the critically acclaimed crime drama, The Land, proves that he has the skills and vision necessary to bring I Am Legend 2 to life.

According to a recent article by Deadline, I’m thrilled to hear that they might have found the director for “I Am Legend 2”! It’s reported that Steven Caple Jr. is in discussions to take on this exciting project. Can’t wait to see what he brings to the table!

The most recent update indicates that Caple Jr. is the preferred choice of Warner Bros. for the role, although nothing is finalized or agreed upon yet. He previously collaborated with Michael B. Jordan, who will co-star with Will Smith in the upcoming film, on the successful boxing production Creed II.

Caple Jr. is not only behind the helm of 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts but also of the 2016 crime drama film, The Land, featuring Jorge Lendeborg Jr. in its cast.

I’m thrilled to share that a sequel to “I Am Legend” was announced back in 2022, but since then, news about the project has been scarce. Last year, writer Akiva Goldsman gave us a glimpse into what the movie could possibly bring, hinting that it might be set deep into the future.

What do we know about I Am Legend 2?

“Goldsman mentioned that this project would begin several decades after the initial one has started. He is fascinated by ‘The Last of Us,’ which depicts a world post-apocalypse and 20-30 years into recovery. The beauty lies in questioning what occurs when man no longer dominates, and New York will offer intriguing visuals for this exploration. Whether or not characters ascend to the Empire State Building is uncertain, but possibilities abound.”

The 2007 film “I Am Legend” drew inspiration from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same title. Upon release, it became a major success and set a new record for highest opening weekend box office for a non-holiday movie. It also ranked as the seventh top-grossing film of that year.
