Hypercharge Unboxed VR is a dream project for devs – “I think we have to do it, to be honest”

The indie hit Hypercharge Unboxed, known for its wave-based style, will be making an appearance on a new console later in 2021. Following its debut in 2020, the five-member development team plans to launch the game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this year. However, there’s a possibility of one more platform joining the lineup: Virtual Reality (VR).

To VideoGamer, game designer Joe Henson shared that his team has long noticed the pleas for a Virtual Reality (VR) version of Hypercharge Unboxed. Across platforms like PSVR and PC, the development team is keenly aware of the clamor from fans whenever the game surfaces online.

Hypercharge Unboxed VR will probably happen

Originating from virtual reality (VR) development with an early title like New Retro Arcade: Neon, Henson indicates that they possess the expertise to transfer their toybox shooter game to VR gaming enthusiasts.

As we approach the release of our game on the PlayStation 4 and 5, I’m excited to share that we’ve made it onto almost every major platform – except for Virtual Reality (VR). After dedicating a decade to this project, wrapping up the first installment with a VR conversion feels like a fitting conclusion. It would be an incredible full-circle moment for our company.

Are PlayStation enthusiasts fond of the following features in upcoming games?

– 4-player cooperative multiplayer online
– Traditional Player versus Player (PvP) modes
– Complete support for splitscreen gaming
– Offline play with artificial intelligence bots as opponents

We’re getting ready to announce the release date for PS5 and PS4 very soon 🙂

They clarified that when viewed from a toy’s perspective, Hypercharge is perfectly suited for Virtual Reality. The scale of the game is comparable to real life.

As a gamer, I’m convinced that something’s gotta change. Virtual Reality (VR) seems like a promising direction to me. I can sense it in the air – we’re going to dive into this, we have to. It’s not a question of if, but when.
