Hunt: Showdown is getting overhauled with a new name, map & engine upgrade

As a long-time fan of Hunt: Showdown, I’m both excited and apprehensive about the upcoming changes. The new map, Mammon’s Gulch, promises to be a breathtaking addition with its Colorado mountains setting and unique compounds. However, as someone who has spent countless hours exploring the swamps of Louisiana, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia.

Starting from August 2024, Hunt: Showdown will be renamed to Hunt: Showdown 1896. This name change comes with various updates such as a fresh new map located in an alternate Colorado mountain range, an advancement to CryEngine 5.11, and the retirement of the game on earlier console generations.

Players have been anticipating the arrival of a new map called Mammon’s Gulch, which Crytek has officially unveiled on July 25, 2024. According to Crytek’s post, this Colorado-themed location boasts sixteen distinct areas in its mountains and valleys. The announcement mentions new hazards, as well as burnt towns and mines. Previous maps have only hinted at underground spaces; however, Mammon’s Gulch might be the first to offer an extensive network of tunnels for players to explore beneath the surface.

The latest map release includes an engine update to CryEngine 5.11, promising enhanced visuals. Crytek highlights advancements in texture quality, lighting effects, character animations, and audio design, which is impressive given the current superior sound design. This enhancement enables current-gen console users to experience native 4K resolution and a consistent 60 frames per second.

While the new features in Hunt: Showdown 1896 are exciting, they won’t be accessible on older consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But fear not, as Crytek announced that all existing console players will receive an upgrade to the new game for free! Your progress and purchases will be carried over as well, so you can start fresh on the latest generation of consoles when you’re ready.

On August 15, 2024, the game will be renamed as Hunt: Showdown 1896 and a new location, Mammon’s Gulch, will be introduced. For further details about Crytek’s suspenseful and eerie extract-shooter in this revamped version, please check out our Hunt: Showdown 1896 webpage.
