Summary
- Julien’s and Turner Classic Movies have unveiled an auction of 450 items from David Lynch’s estate, including film artifacts, personal objects, artworks, ephemera, and more.
After the death of the renowned movie director, David Lynch, in January, Julien’s and Turner Classic Movies have put up for auction over 450 of his possessions. This unique assortment offers a fascinating peek into the quirky mind of this talented filmmaker. The collection includes props from films like “Twin Peaks”, movie-making equipment, designer home decor, and various personal items. Rather than just an auction, this assemblage serves as a gateway to Hollywood history.
Among the standout items in this auction are David Lynch’s director’s chair, featuring his name in bold yellow lettering and estimated to sell between $5,000 and $7,000, as well as film relics such as a 35mm print of Lynch’s debut film, Eraserhead. Devoted fans of Lynch will find familiar items like his personal red curtain and zig-zag rug, reminiscent of the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks, along with a framed photograph of a nuclear explosion, linked to the seventh episode of Twin Peaks: The Return. Scripts for films like Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, and Lost Highway are also up for grabs. Additionally, collectibles from his estate, such as “David Lynch” baseball caps, movie-themed t-shirts, and scarce film posters, are available.
From Lynch’s personal abode, a variety of items with a touch of personality such as custom home decor, cherished mid-century furniture, artworks autographed by the artist, and even unique appliances are offered. Movie enthusiasts might not be aware of Lynch’s foray into furniture design, but they can appreciate his distinctive pieces like a bean-shaped side table with a red accent panel and a custom conference table that he designed and constructed himself. Additional furniture is sourced from modern furniture retailers like those featuring designs by George Nelson, Eero Saarinen, Milo Baughman, the Eameses, and Isamu Noguchi. The appliance collection boasts several La Marzocco espresso machines, drip coffee makers, and a multitude of cups and kitchen utensils.
