As a long-time VR enthusiast who’s been through my fair share of headsets, I must say that the HTC VIVE Focus Vision has caught my attention. With its hybrid standalone PCVR capability and affordable price tag, it seems to be striking a perfect balance between cost and performance. The impressive specs, including the 90 Hz refresh rate, 120 field of view, and up to 5K resolution per eye, coupled with advanced eye tracking and hand/body tracking, make it a promising contender in the VR market.
HTC unveiled its upcoming addition to the VIVE VR HMD series: the Focus Vision PCVR hybrid headset. This new device, announced this week, aims to combine HTC’s latest VR technology with a comfortable design that can operate independently for most applications. However, it also allows for an easy connection to a PC when additional power is required in your VR experience. Pre-orders are now open, and the Focus Vision is set to be released in October 2024.
This week, HTC unveiled the VIVE Focus Vision and its specifications on their website. The headset will be available for purchase at a retail price of $999 USD, with shipping scheduled for around October 17, 2024. The most striking aspect of this device is its ability to operate wirelessly as a standalone unit for approximately 2 hours for most applications. Additionally, it can be connected to a PC via DisplayPort Mode to enhance graphics quality and improve response times.

The HTC VIVE Focus Vision offers a balance between affordability and powerful performance, compared to previous HTC VR devices. It boasts a 90 Hz refresh rate, an expansive 120 field of view, and up to 5K resolution split across the two 2448 x 2448 displays per eye. It’s equipped with advanced eye tracking, four internal cameras for both hand and body tracking, and numerous additional features. This technology is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, supplemented by 12 GBs of LPDDR5 RAM. The storage capacity can be increased to 2 TB using a MicroSD card.
