How to use the GPS Receiver – DayZ

In DayZ, many of us have stumbled upon a GPS Receiver and left it behind, either because we’re familiar with the map or simply unsure of how to utilize this device. Today, I’m going to guide you through understanding the GPS Receiver and its benefits for your gameplay experience.

How to use the GPS Receiver

After getting a GPS Receiver, insert a 9V battery into it to make it functional. Once the battery is in place, pick up the GPS Receiver by clicking your left mouse button. To view the longitude, latitude, and elevation on its screen, hold the device aloft while pressing your right mouse button. This data will match up with both the Tourist Map within the game and any iZurvive maps.

The Tourist Map has an advantage – when the GPS Receiver is activated, it displays your current longitude, latitude, and elevation in the bottom left corner of the map, allowing you to focus on the map without needing to memorize or switch between screens. By clicking and moving the map with your mouse, you can easily explore the area without disrupting your immersion in the surroundings. This makes it perfect for individuals who prefer not to switch devices while using a map.

It’s worth mentioning that this system functions effectively on established servers like Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal. Yet, its performance can be inconsistent when it comes to custom-made maps by the community. While it generally works well with many of these maps, offering additional features such as the Green County map which displays your location through an in-game circle directly on the map itself, there are instances where it might not work at all on some community-created maps.
