In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, each tool you acquire offers Sam Porter Bridges fresh possibilities to tackle the numerous hazards and obstacles he encounters during his lengthy voyage, and an excellent early acquisition is the Tranq Sniper Rifle. You can gather the blueprint for this after establishing a few shelters and becoming accustomed to your surroundings, around a significant change in scenery; however, it’s also optional and may be missed if the necessary conditions aren’t met. This guide will ensure you don’t overlook it.

Travel to Australia, take on Sub Order 100 & find The Lone Commander
As I find myself at a pivotal moment in Death Stranding 2, I’m tasked with leaping from Mexico to Australia, where I’ll start linking the fresh continent to the Chiral Network. Upon my initial connection, at Old Oz’s outpost and The Government Base, I learn about a fellow prepper working close by who could prove valuable for my mission – The Lone Commander. Intriguingly, Old Oz hands me a Sub Order to deliver something to The Lone Commander as a means of establishing contact. To set the ball rolling on that, I’ll need to accept and complete Sub Order 100: Deliver the Dismantled Rifle to the Lone Commander.
In line with common sense, the goods for this task are delicate and multiple jolts could cause them to shatter, resulting in a failed mission (you’re allowed to try again promptly from The Government Base). To add complexity, The Lone Commander’s stronghold is situated precariously among rugged mountains where BTs prowl. For this assignment, ensure you have the following prepared:
Recommended Gear
- Container Repair Spray
- Asssault Rifle Lv 1 (MP)
- Two to three Ladders
- Two Climbing Anchors
- Blood Grenades Lv 1
- Blood Bags
Born in Mexico, you’d likely find a lot of this gear manufacturing process familiar. This toolkit will guide you towards The Lone Commander’s base, allowing you to bypass BTs when possible and engage them only when necessary. Remember, if a BT notices you, avoid getting hit as it could damage the Disassembled Rifle, even from falls. Take caution with direct impacts. Once you reach the Commander and deliver your cargo, you’ll earn some respect. Additionally, there are scattered supplies en route that could potentially gain you favor among different groups or simply boost your own stocks. However, reaching The Lone Commander is merely the beginning; there’s more to be done.
Take on Sub Order 101 & get The Lone Commander into the Chiral Network
To simply reaching The Lone Commander with a dismantled rifle isn’t enough; he won’t link up with the Chiral Network during your initial encounter. Instead, you’ll need to make a good impression on him, and for that, he’s assigned you Task 101: Retrieve the Mementos from the BT Zone.
Given your prior encounter en route, you’re now aware of the necessary resources for the reverse journey. However, this time, instead of following a detour, you’re being ordered to advance headlong into the domain of BT, within The Lone Commander’s jurisdiction. Prioritize packing items from Sub Order 100, focusing particularly on your combat equipment. Additionally, consider carrying an extra rifle and a few additional grenades. Your mission is to retrieve the Lost Momentos Cargo and return it with minimal harm inflicted.
Unfortunately, the location is smack dab among several BTs. It’s possible to maneuver between them, but if you possess an Assault Rifle and Blood Grenades, it would be much simpler to take out one or two of those directly obstructing your path. This way, you can enter more securely, collect the items, and exit smoothly without any complications. Additionally, setting up some Ladders and Climbing Anchors as you progress will prove beneficial for your escape route. Keep in mind that Container Repair Spray will help reduce damage to the goods, but at least they’re not as delicate as the Disassembled Rifle from Sub Order 100.
Deliver the Momentos Cargo to The Lone Commander, and in return, he will provide you with blueprints for the Sniper Tranq Rifle and Smoke Grenades, as well as officially inducting you into the Chiral Network. This gives you access to his region, resources, and more tasks from him. Perform well, and you might even get access to superior versions of his Tranq Sniper Rifle.
The Tranq Sniper Rifle excels in taking down human opponents from vast distances, although its loudness is a drawback, yet this can be turned into an advantage. You can eliminate an enemy, and due to their instinctive response, they may gather at the spot where you fired, providing an opportunity for a second ambush and potentially another kill if you adjust your position skillfully. Continue shooting and relocating, and you’ll find it straightforward to clear an entire base with this rifle. Moreover, by employing Smoke Grenades, you can evade enemy fire and remain untraceable.
After learning the route to reach The Lone Commander and uncovering the blueprint for the Tranquilizing Sniper Rifle, don’t forget to explore further insights in the Death Stranding 2 discussion.
