On June 5, 2025, Nintendo introduced the Switch 2, accompanied by the release of Mario Kart World. If you’re a fan of the Mario Kart series, you’ll recognize Rainbow Road as the ultimate challenge for any racer. Here is a guide on how to unlock Rainbow Road within the Grand Prix mode of Mario Kart World.
How to unlock Rainbow Road
In Mario Kart World, gaining access to Rainbow Road isn’t difficult. Upon starting the game for the first time, Grand Prix mode offers you seven cups: Mushroom, Flower, Star, Shell, Banana, Leaf, and Lightning. Each cup consists of four tracks. Once you complete all the tracks within each cup, you’ll unlock the Special Cup. This cup contains four additional tracks, with the final one being none other than Rainbow Road – the ultimate level in the game.
Luckily, you can complete the initial seven cups using any engine (CC) level to access the Special Cup. For those eager to race on Rainbow Road swiftly, pick either 50cc or 100cc and zoom past tracks such as Mushroom, Flower, and so forth. If you’re up for a tougher challenge, opt for 150cc. Regardless of your chosen engine class, you’ll eventually reach Rainbow Road.
Keep in mind that, just like other Mario Kart games, Rainbow Road serves as the climax of the many trials in Mario Kart World. With every power slide, opened item block, and victory, you’ve reached this ultimate test track featuring tight turns and speed increases. Ensure your skills are polished if you aim to secure the top spot.
