How to unlock new tonics - Destiny 2

As a seasoned Guardian with countless hours spent in the vast expanse of Destiny 2’s universe, I can confidently say that the introduction of Tonics during the Episode: Revenant has added a whole new layer to my gameplay experience. Initially, it was a mystery on how to unlock these potent concoctions, but thankfully Bungie made it as easy as crafting a few tonics at the Tonic Table in the Last City.

In Destiny 2’s Episode: Revenant, Tonic recipes have become the latest addition. Initially, players can only create a few Tonic concoctions, and soon enough, you may find yourself desiring more. However, the method to unlock additional tonics might not be immediately apparent, but rest assured, it’s straightforward.

How to get more tonics

In Destiny 2’s Last City, you can access higher-tier tonics by repeatedly crafting lower-tier tonics at the Tonic Table. For instance, consistently creating the green version of a tonic will eventually unlock the blue version, and multiple blue versions could lead to unlocking the purple version. Additionally, new tonics not connected to those you’re currently crafting might become available or recipes for them may be obtained by participating in Revenant activities.

Once you’ve prepared a sufficient number of tonics, the top row on the Tonic Table screen will vanish and be replaced with two tiles labeled ‘Volatile Tonics’ and ‘Enriching Tonics’. Volatile Tonics grant enhanced Artifact traits and minor alterations to your class abilities (like Devour or Frost Armor). On the other hand, Enriching Tonics focus on increasing the drop rates of weapons, armor, and so forth.

It’s worth noting that the various types of tonics have distinct levels of rarity. To clarify, the distinctions between Common, Rare, and Legendary Volatile Tonics lie in their enhanced artifact perks and durations.

  • Uncommon: Lasts 20 minutes, offers one Boosted Artifact Perk
  • Rare: Lasts 40 minutes, offers a different Boosted Artifact Perk
  • Legendary: Lasts 60 minutes, offers both of the previous Boosted Artifact Perks

The difference between the Enriching Tonics is also the duration of the effect and how many potential rewards are offered.

After finishing the Eliksni Rescue campaign in Revenant, your primary goal will shift towards unlocking fresh tonics. To ensure you’re well-prepared, it’s essential to learn techniques for farming ingredients and reagents, enabling you to continue crafting tonics.
