In Monster Hunter Wilds, one of my main focuses was breaking through multiple layers of armor on monsters. After all, what’s the point of hunting monsters if you can’t also show off your style on the catwalk. In the early stages of the game, fashion is usually neglected due to the need for any gear that boosts stats. This often results in a confusing mix of colors and designs.
As an enthusiast, I can’t help but share some insights about enhancing your character’s appearance in Wilds. Unlike other realms, you can’t tweak your armor’s color until you’ve fully unlocked layered armor. If you’re tired of resembling someone who rummaged through the forbidden lands’ second-hand store, here’s a guide on how to unlock layered armor, change its pigment, and understand the entire process better.
Monster Hunter Wilds layered armor unlock
As a devoted fan, I’ve found an intriguing aspect of this game that I thought I’d share: You can adjust the visibility of your armor and apply pre-order DLC cosmetics from your tent whenever you like. However, to fully unlock layered armor, you need to advance to High Rank. Once you’ve successfully vanquished the Yian Kut-Ku in the Scarlet Forest, feel free to chat with Gemma for a detailed explanation on how it works. Regrettably, this implies you’ll have to traverse through all of Low Rank donning a mix of various colored armor pieces before you can finally curate your unique style.
In contrast, the positive update is that manufacturing layered armor is now straightforward. You no longer need special tickets or complicated procedures like in World and Rise. Instead, simply produce High Rank armor as usual. Any armor piece you craft will automatically become a layered armor piece which you can utilize to boost your hunter’s aesthetic attributes whenever desired.
To put on multi-layered protection, or switch its visibility, just step into your tent, navigate to the Appearance Tab located on the extreme right, and select ‘Equipment Appearance’. Here’s a brief explanation of the process:
1. Enter your tent.
2. Navigate to the Appearance Tab on the far right.
3. Choose ‘Equipment Appearance’ from the options available.
- The leftmost slot lets you choose and equip layered armor
- The toggle in the centre changes whether armor is displayed and you can do this from the start of the game
- The two pigment slots on the right let you change the colour of your displayed armour, though this unlocks alongside layered armor
- The bottom two slots let you add pendants to your weapon
With all that, you can transform your hunter into the chicest monster-slaying style icon.
