In the eerie, Lovecraftian-themed city of Ry’uul from Doom: The Dark Ages, some intricate puzzles are hidden, and one particular block puzzle might leave you scratching your head until you grasp the correct method for moving the block using the equipment within the room where it resides.

How to solve the block puzzle

After descending a deep tunnel, you’ll find yourself in a circular chamber where a block puzzle awaits. Upon entering, observe as one platform rises and another lowers. Simultaneously, a witch starts delivering a brief speech.

Initially, veer right and search for a block bearing greenery that has a distinctive emblem on it. This symbol is likely to be a responsive device that reacts to your hat. Toss your hat at this trigger, and the platforms will change their heights: the one currently lowered will rise, while the elevated one will descend.

Ascend to the upper level, then jump into the water-filled opening in the wall. Swim to the next such opening, get out, and search for a glowing red metal piece that you can cut with your shield. This action will free the block central to the puzzle’s title. Fall into the room and strike the block repeatedly with your shield; it will roll along the wall until it reaches the platform you previously climbed.

Repeat throwing your shield at the blue lever to adjust the platforms, and afterward, charge your shield against the block again. This action will push the block towards the platform you need to ascend to exit the room. Ascend the block followed by the platform, and you’ll quickly find yourself out of the room.
