How to recalibrate your Nintendo Switch 2 battery display

If you think the battery indicator on your Nintendo Switch 2 seems incorrect – perhaps it’s not showing that it’s charging even when connected, or displays as empty yet remains turned on – there’s a way to fix it. Here’s how to recalibrate the battery display:

1. Let the console run down until it turns off by itself (fully drained).
2. Connect your Nintendo Switch 2 to a charger and let it charge for at least 3 hours.
3. After charging, turn on your Switch and play a game or use it in any way that consumes power for at least 15 minutes.
4. Turn off the console again and let it rest for five full minutes without any use.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 two more times.
6. After the third cycle, the battery percentage should now be accurately displayed on your Nintendo Switch 2.

How to fix battery display errors on Nintendo Switch 2

Prior to starting, make sure you have the following items at hand: Your newly purchased Nintendo Switch 2 gaming system, its corresponding AC adapter modeled as NGN-01, and a stable internet connection. After gathering these essentials, kindly follow the subsequent instructions:

1. Connect your Nintendo Switch 2 console to the power source using the AC adapter.
2. Plug the other end of the AC adapter into an electrical outlet.
3. Turn on your Nintendo Switch 2 console by pressing the Power button located on the top right side of the device.
4. Once powered up, the system will automatically search for an available internet connection. If it finds one, it will connect automatically; if not, you may need to configure the network settings manually.
5. After successfully connecting to the internet, proceed with the initial setup process as prompted on the screen.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup and enjoy your gaming experience!

  • First, make sure you are, in fact, using the correct AC adapter. This must be the NGN-01. The HAC-002 from the original switch can power charge your Switch 2 when directly plugged in but cannot charge the Switch 2 when docked.
  • Update your Switch 2 to the latest system update. If you need to complete an update, go to System Settings on the Home screen, the System, and System Update.
  • When that is done, power off your console. To do this, hold the power button for three seconds, then select Power Options, then Power Off. Do not put the console in Sleep Mode.
  • When powered off, hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the power button once to turn the console back on.
  • Keep holding down the volume buttons until the Recovery Mode menu appears.
  • According to Nintendo, navigating to that menu will reset the battery level meter.
  • Once again, power off the console, then power it back on again normally.

If the problem continues even after you’ve tried several solutions, Nintendo recommends initiating a repair procedure for your console. You can begin this process by reaching out to the Nintendo Repair Center.
