How To Join The Thieves Guild In Oblivion Remastered | The Elder Scrolls IV

In the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, The Thieves Guild is just one of several groups you could choose to ally with.

Or, more casually:

If you’re playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you can opt to join a variety of factions, including The Thieves Guild.

Absolutely, since it’s a guild composed of individuals who are not on the right side of the law, joining isn’t as simple as approaching the leader and asking for membership. Instead, they need to maintain a low profile and stay out of sight from the authorities.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to discover the Thieves Guild and how to complete the initiation.

How To Join The Thieves Guild | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

To become part of the Thieves Guild, you first need to learn about it and its leader. You can do this by meeting someone like “City-Swimmer” or ending up in jail due to a bounty on your head. However, an effortless way is simply to go to the Imperial City Waterfront, as indicated above.

Upon reaching your destination, search for a wanted notice featuring the Gray Fox. Engage with this notice, and it will become an option in your conversations with townsfolk.

It’s not strictly necessary, but it could be beneficial to approach any street beggars you encounter in the Imperial City, particularly around the Waterfront district, after reading the wanted poster.

Once you’ve managed to boost the beggar’s mood significantly, inquire about the legend of The Gray Fox again and explain your intention to collaborate with him. After that, they’ll direct you to visit the Garden of Dareloth at midnight.

Meeting with the Thieves

Heed the words I’ve heard from the humble soul, make your way to the Garden of Dareloth situated along the Imperial City Waterfront. A rough sketch of its location is provided on the map above for your convenience. Arrive a bit ahead of midnight, ideally around 11 PM, to ensure you’re right on time.

1) It’s advisable to save your progress now as a precautionary measure. Additionally, remember to carry some lock picks with you since they might come in handy. Also, taking a look at our guide on lock picking could be beneficial to refresh your memory about the technique.

After midnight passes, some non-player characters (NPCs) will make their way to the Garden of Dareloth. You’ll want to find and interact with Armand Christophe. Convince him until his attitude towards you is favorable (50 or more). Then, discuss Gray Fox with him and select the option “Join the Thieves Guild.” If the other NPCs are still absent, he may simply instruct you to be patient.

At the Garden of Dareloth, if you opt for the Thieves Guild, Armand Christophe will initiate a challenge. This commences the “May the Swiftest Fingers Prevail” contest, a thrilling rivalry between thieves.

The Test

In order to succeed in the test, you must swiftly make your way to Amantius Allectus’ residence, which is found within the Temple District of the Imperial City. If you encounter beggars on your journey, you can ask them for directions, but time is of the essence. To assist you, we’ve placed a marker on the map provided above. Keep in mind that upon arrival, you will need to choose the correct door to enter the house.

Upon entering the house, look towards your right where you’ll find a desk positioned against the northern wall.

1) Grab Amantius Allectus’ Diary from the desk, making sure no one sees! If you’re quick enough, this could be your first successful heist! Now, all that’s left is for you to return to the Garden of Dareloth at midnight. There, you’ll meet Armand Christophe again. Hand over the diary and you’ll become an official member of the Thieves Guild in Oblivion Remastered!

What to Do if Methredhel Got the Diary

If I’m lagging behind, Methredhel might snatch the diary ahead of me. You’ll get an update on your quest if that happens. She’s blazingly quick, so it’s not unusual for her to beat me to it! But don’t worry, there’s still a chance to turn things around. I just need to sneakily grab the diary back from Methredhel.

One option would be to locate Methredel and discreetly take her diary. Since she appears to still be roaming around Amantius Allectus’ residence, there’s a good chance she’ll have the diary with her.

The second option is to let Methredhel return to her home, which we’ve previously marked on this spot. Once there, she’ll store Amantius’ diary in a chest and then retire for the night. If you act quickly and break into her house, you can seize the diary before she does, effectively taking it out of her reach. Essentially, if you don’t act, she might win – so don’t dawdle!

Instead, you could encounter Armand Christophe once more (same location, same time), and he’ll propose a mission to pilfer a sword from “A Fighting Chance.” This task is open-ended, allowing you to complete it whenever you wish, providing a more relaxed opportunity for you to join the Thieves Guild.

Here I am, thrilled to share with you the steps on how to become a part of the renowned Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Follow these instructions and you’ll be walking the shadowy paths alongside some of Tamriel’s most cunning thieves!
