As a gamer immersed in Destiny 2, I’ve witnessed a significant transformation with the arrival of The Edge of Fate expansion. Now, instead of traditional methods, we have Unstable Cores, a new form of currency, shaping the height of my Power level. Obtaining the initial Unstable Cores can be challenging. However, once you’re on the climb, acquiring them becomes easier. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Completing activities like strikes, crucible matches, and adventures will reward you with Unstable Cores.
2. Destroying powerful enemies in these activities also has a chance to drop these cores.
3. Engaging with the new seasonal challenges can yield additional Unstable Cores.
4. Don’t forget to claim your weekly rewards from Banshee-44, the Vanguard weaponsmith, and Zavala, the Vanguard commander. They often provide Unstable Cores as part of their rewards.
5. Lastly, keep an eye out for daily bounties from various vendors. Some may reward you with these elusive cores.
How to get Unstable Cores in Destiny 2
Here are two primary methods for acquiring Unstable Cores: one is through the Rewards Pass, particularly the premium variant, and the other is by breaking down powerful weapons and armors.
As a gamer, when I come across high-powered gear, it’s anything sporting a Power value over 200, easily identified by its deep blue Power figure with a ‘+’ symbol attached. The bigger this number gets, the more Unstable Cores I’m showered with!
For instance, breaking down a 213+ item gives you 112 Cores, while a 202+ weapon yields just 18 Cores. Consequently, it’s wise to disassemble any equipment you don’t intend to use or enhance, which mostly applies to Tier 1 and 2 gear items, as they will directly go into your Stable Core collection.
How to use Unstable Cores
You combine Unstable Cores with Enhancement Cores to elevate the power level of lower powered equipment by using a higher powered item. For instance, if your chest armor is at 200 and you have a piece of gear that’s 205 or more, you’ll need to use some of your Unstable Cores as payment for this enhancement process.
The price you pay depends on the strength of the item you’re using as infusion material, but not its rarity or tier. Interestingly, the cost decreases when the two items are more similar in power. For instance, transforming a 10-powered item into a 214-powered one would require 29 Unstable Cores. On the other hand, boosting a 213-powered item to 214 would only cost you 2 Unstable Cores instead.
At the conclusion of each season, Unstable Cores are no longer valid, and your power will be capped at 200. Moreover, to tackle challenging content, you’ll have to gather more Unstable Cores and powerful armor pieces.
