How To Fix the Stellar Blade Screenshots Issue on PC

On Steam, the debut of Stellar Blade outperformed every PlayStation-published game in terms of concurrent users (CCU) on its platform by a significant margin. It’s been a massive success and offers an outstanding port that runs smoothly, even surpassing the performance of the PS5 version, making it feel like an improvement.

Although this game’s overall quality is impressive, there are occasional small problems. Regrettably, if you find yourself unable to capture screenshots using the photo mode in Stellar Blade, particularly during a specific mission, I can provide a solution for that issue instead.

Fixing the Screenshots Save Failed Error in Stellar Blade

In Stellar Blade, if you can’t capture selfies or save screenshots in some missions, it’s likely because the game doesn’t have permission to create a separate folder for these images. A message “Screenshots Save Failed” may appear at the top left corner of your screen instead.

If you’ve put the game in the Windows system drive (C), it might cause some issues, but luckily, there’s an easy fix for that problem.

  • Open Steam and navigate to your library.
  • Right-click on Stellar Blade, select Manage, followed by Browse local files.
  • This will take you to where Stellar Blade is installed on your PC. By default, it should be this if you installed it on the C drive.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\StellarBlade\
  • Here (in the StellarBlade folder), create a new folder and rename it to “Screenshots

Great! Now you’re all set to move forward with the mission and capture your usual screenshots. Unfortunately, the game might not have created the necessary folder automatically, which is why you may need to manually create a new folder where you can save your screenshots.

Alternate Workaround

It’s been verified that turning off High Dynamic Range (HDR) resolves the issue at hand, but keep in mind that this might not be the optimal solution for those who prefer using HDR functionality.

They’ve also assured us they’re investigating this issue, to prevent players from needing to establish a separate folder for this fundamental function.

In essence, although there are a few small drawbacks, the adaptation of Stellar Blade on Unreal Engine is among the finest we’ve encountered recently. The fact that it doesn’t utilize Unreal Engine 5 might be one reason, but the performance has been reliable across both PC and PS5 platforms.
