Players of the Thieves Guild are almost done with their main storyline, and the Gray Fox has asked for your assistance one last time in this Oblivion Remastered mission. But even the Gray Fox couldn’t foresee the unexpected, as the Boots of Springheel Jak quest may have some technical issues with the Thieves Guild, causing some players to encounter difficulties completing it.
In the game Oblivion Remastered’s Thieves Guild storyline, there are several parts of the Boots of Springheel Jak mission that could challenge players. This guide is designed to assist those who may struggle, helping them finish the quest and pocket some gold along the way.
How to Start the Boots of Springheel Jak Quest in Oblivion Remastered
To initiate the adventure of Boots of Springheel Jak, gamers must initially sell 800 gold’s value of stolen items to the Thieves Guild vendors. After completing the earlier mission known as Arrow of Extrication and this transaction, players will receive a message from the Gray Fox. To get this message, navigate to the Imperial City and utilize the in-game timer for 24 hours. Following this wait period, Amusei will approach you, instructing you to locate the Gray Fox at Gandrehel’s House within Cheydinhal. Upon reaching the Gray Fox, gamers can start the Boots of Springheel Jak quest.
Prior to moving forward, it would be prudent to make a distinct save at this point, solely for the duration of the quest, since there are some well-known glitches that might hinder players from advancing in the quest.
How to Find Clues in Jakben Imbel’s House in Oblivion Remastered
To embark on this adventure, you’ll first need to navigate your way to the heart of the Imperial City, specifically Talos Plaza. Once there, keep an eye out for Jakben’s house which resides on the inner wall. In case you get lost, you can ask beggars for directions, but they’re easy to spot. Upon arrival, be prepared to pick the lock to enter the house. However, be aware that Jakben and his servant, Gemellus Axius, might be inside. Don’t worry if they are, you can choose to confront them directly or sneak past without triggering any alarms, as they won’t summon guards as long as you act swiftly.
Stepping into Jakben’s residence, I climb the stairs to his private quarters and make my way towards the dining room. Inside, there’s a hidden trap door concealed behind a staircase. With a set of lockpicks, I manage to unlock it, revealing another puzzle: another lockpick to open the desk within. Securing the Imbel Genealogy – the sole clue in Jakben’s house – was my reward for solving these challenges.
Where to Find Jakben Imbel in Oblivion Remastered

After obtaining the Imbel Genealogy, it’s now time to locate and converse with Jakben himself. This stage of the quest might be a bit tricky as Jakben may roam in various locations. Here are all the possible ways and times players can find Jakben, with the most frequent being listed first:
1. In the market square during the daytime.
2. Inside the tavern in the evening.
3. By the river at sunset.
4. In the library late at night.
5. On the outskirts of town during twilight.
- Wait outside of Jakben’s house until around 5:30 AM to 6 AM, when he will exit his front door and enter the Talos Plaza.
- Wait outside of Jakben’s house until 10 PM, where Jakben will walk around the Talos Plaza until 2 AM on Morndas, Middas, and Fredas.
- Enter the basement in Jakben’s house and wait in front of the locked catacombs door for 6 AM, where he should turn up to enter the crypt to sleep.
If Jakben hasn’t appeared yet or players can’t locate him, it’s possible that Jakben perished outside from sun exposure. Since Jakben is a vampire, he can only survive indoors during daytime. To resolve this issue, try reloading an earlier save before attempting to enter Jakben’s house again.
After locating Jakben, players can converse with him to learn about Springheel Jak’s Tomb. He will provide them with a key to the Catacombs, which are accessible through his basement, located on the lower level of his house. It is recommended that players carry a Potion of Cure Disease before entering the Catacombs due to the presence of vampires. If players choose to eliminate Jakben instead for his boots, they should be aware that this action may lead to a bounty and unwanted attention from the Dark Brotherhood.
How to Get the Boots of Springheel Jak in Oblivion Remastered

As a gamer, I can’t wait to unlock Jakben’s House key and venture inside the Catacombs! Upon entering, I’ll find myself in a compact dungeon. While there are a few side chambers to my left, they house just minor vampires and loot boxes, but the real action lies ahead. Be prepared, though, because there’s a whole lot of ghostly creatures lurking around, so packing a weapon with enchanting properties, silver weapons, or spellcasting abilities is essential if I want to take them down.
At the final stage of the dungeon, adventurers will stumble upon Springheel Jak’s Coffin. Inside, they’ll find Jakben Imbel’s Diary. Reading this diary in your inventory reveals that Jakben is none other than Springheel Jak himself! As a result, Jakben will then head to the Catacombs to confront the player. Defeating Jakben allows players to obtain the Boots of Springheel Jak, which offer an impressive 50 Acrobatics points. However, these boots cannot be kept permanently. Instead, they must be returned to the Gray Fox at Gandrehel’s House in Cheydinhal, wrapping up the second-to-last Thieves Guild quest and rewarding players with a generous 500 gold coins.
