In DayZ, loot raids can be exciting since they offer the chance for players to quickly acquire high-end gear by seizing another player’s hard-earned items. Today, I’m going to walk you through creating, equipping, and safely using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Contrary to belief, it’s less complicated than you might think, especially if you’re open to using some uncommon items in place of more readily available ones.
How to craft an Improvised Explosive
To craft an Improvised Explosive, you’ll need the following items:
- Small Protective Case
- Electrical Repair Kit
- Remote Detonation Unit (or other detonation device)
- Plastic Explosives (or other explosives)
First, lay down the Small Protective Case and pick up the Electrical Repair Kit. Examine the Small Protective Case when prompted, then press and hold the left mouse button to create an Improvised Explosive. Insert your Plastic Explosives or other explosives into the device, then grab it. You’ll now have the option to select a placement for the device. After placing the Improvised Explosive, retrieve the Remote Detonation Unit from your inventory and hold it in your hands. Once more, look at the Improvised Explosive and press and hold the left mouse button to arm it. Take a few steps back for safety, then take a few more precautionary steps. With the Remote Detonation Unit in hand, you can choose to detonate it by pressing the left mouse button. Note that you cannot arm the Improvised Explosive with the Remote Detonator; this will not work. However, once you arm the Improvised Explosive with the Remote Detonation Unit, you’ll have a Remote Detonator in your hand.
Actually, I’ve given the impression that you must have exactly those four particular objects to assemble an Improvised Explosive Device in DayZ, but there’s some flexibility – exchanging certain items will simplify things for you significantly.
In essence, feel free to select any type of explosive at your disposal, since Plastic Explosives are extremely uncommon. This could include grenades, mines, smoke grenades, or anything else within your reach. Your choice depends on what resources you can scavenge. Moreover, if a Remote Detonation Unit isn’t available to you, consider using everyday items like an Alarm Clock or Kitchen Timer instead. You might not have given these items much thought before, but they could prove quite useful now.
Hey there, fellow gamer! Just a heads-up, not every base door or gate goes down with just one bang. A pair of plastic explosives could be your best bet, but if you’re out, don’t forget about good old fashioned whacking with an axe or blasting it with whatever firepower you’ve got. I managed to take out the lower part of a gate using a single plastic explosive and around 100 bullets, so just thought I’d share that tidbit in case it helps you strategize your next move. Happy gaming!
