As an avid Path of Exile 2 player with countless hours spent grinding through dungeons and battling formidable beasts, I can confidently say that sockets have become my new best friends. They open up a whole new world of possibilities for character customization and power level growth.
In Path of Exile 2, Runes significantly impact your power level, but using them requires items with empty slots, known as sockets. Unfortunately, obtaining items with desired modifiers in these slots isn’t always straightforward. However, you do have the ability to add sockets to preferred gear.
How to add sockets to your weapons and armor – Path of Exile 2
To equip sockets onto your equipment, you’ll require Artificer Orbs. These won’t begin dropping until you progress deeper into the game, so there’s no need to fret about them showing up in Act 1. Once obtained, simply right-click on the orb, similar to other orbs, and then click on the equipment item you want to affix a socket to.
As a gamer, I’ve found an awesome trick for crafting Artificer Orbs! You can do this by transforming Artificer Shards, which you can snag by breaking down items with sockets at the Salvage Bench, located in every major camp. This is usually the best way to nab those elusive Artificer Orbs until you’re deep into the game.
Gear can have the following number of sockets:
- Body armor items – two sockets
- Two-handed weapons – two sockets
- Gloves, shoes, headwear, one-handed weapons – one socket
- Belt, Rings, Charms, Amulets – none
Don’t forget, once you start getting drops with sockets in them, think carefully because it is much better to salvage the ones you don’t want than sell them, but you also might want to keep them in your Stash for another character.
