Olivia Munn details The Newsroom director wanting to ‘ruin’ her career
Recently, Olivia Munn shared insights about her experience working on HBO’s The Newsroom. She disclosed that disputes with one of the show’s directors could have affected her future job prospects. On the June 30 edition of Armchair Expert, Munn spoke frankly about how disagreements arose when her character, Sloan Sabbith, developed a romantic relationship with Don Keefer, portrayed by Thomas Sadoski.
Despite loving her part and the favorable reactions towards Sloan, Munn shared that one director persistently wanted to alter her character’s development. This director aimed to emphasize more flirtatiousness and romance in her performance, even in instances where she believed it didn’t fit the character.
As a loyal fan, I can share that when changes were proposed, I found myself resisting just like Munn did. In her own words, “I stood my ground so fiercely.” The creative differences escalated to such an extent that the director labeled her as “too strong” and “forceful.” Despite this, Munn remained unyielding, even when a producer acknowledged the growing tension.
Furthermore, the problems didn’t stop at The Newsroom incident. Subsequently, Munn alleged that the same director tried to undermine a significant film project for her. Prior to securing the role, her team was notified that the director of The Newsroom had warned the movie producers about Munn being “difficult” and frequently tardy. Munn declared these accusations as untrue, stating that she resided just seven minutes away from the studio and was always punctual.
Regarding the director, she expressed that he attempted to undermine her. Despite this challenging experience, she ultimately secured the role. However, she noted that she would forever recall this situation due to their differing interpretations of a role and his perceived attempts to sabotage her future opportunities.
