As a long-time fan who has followed the journey of Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson from their “SNL” days to their beautiful marriage and parenthood, I must say that this recent episode left me feeling a bit disheartened. While humor is an essential part of “SNL,” there’s a line between funny and inappropriate, and unfortunately, Jost crossed it with his jokes about Johansson.
Recently, Saturday Night Live (SNL) writer Colin Jost delivered some questionable jokes concerning his spouse, Scarlett Johansson, during the Weekend Update segment he co-hosts with Michael Che. Given these circumstances, viewers are intrigued about how Scarlett responded to her husband’s humor.
In this week’s SNL Weekend Update episode, Scarlett Johansson shared her response to Colin Jost’s humorous remarks about her.
Scarlett Johansson reacts to Colin Jost’s dirty jokes about her
In the recent Saturday Night Live Weekend Update segment, Colin Jost delivered three off-color and impolite comments concerning Scarlett Johansson and their marital relationship.
In that particular episode, I found myself jokingly dedicating my opening gag to Scarlett Johansson, the amazing Black Widow actress. “Hey there, sweetie. You know Scarlett just had her 40th birthday celebration, so it’s time for me to get up and perform,” I quipped. This left her puzzled, and she chuckled in a moment of bewilderment. I followed with a laugh before the camera shifted to Johansson, who seemed at a loss for words.
Later on, Jost playfully teased about why viewers hadn’t seen pictures of their son Cosmo, born in 2021, by saying, “because he’s as dark as night,” and shared a digitally altered image of him and Johansson holding a black child. The scene then transitions to Johansson awkwardly sipping her drink and giving a sideways glance.
In the closing moments of the segment, Jost jokingly mentioned Johansson in relation to Costco discontinuing roast beef sandwiches. He quipped, “I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the baby,” which left Johansson puzzled and exclaimed, “Oh my god, holy s**t.” He quickly clarified, “No no, I’m just messing around, you know I don’t go downtown.
Previously, Jost has poked fun at Johansson on SNL, which was partly instigated by Michael Che’s trickery. In a 2020 episode that aired in December, Jost made a joke about Johansson portraying Sammy Davis Jr. in a film, alluding to the actor’s past issue of whitewashing, particularly playing the Japanese character Motoko Kusanagi in the live-action version of the anime/manga Ghost in the Shell.
On The Kelly Clarkson Show, when Jost and Che poked fun at me for supposedly “blacking out” during one of my performances, I couldn’t help but chuckle at their playful banter as a die-hard fan of theirs.
